Brown University Class of 2019 RD Applicants

Should I even pretend I have a chance if I didn’t get an interview?

@goodinterrupt‌
I think they sent an email a few days ago saying it would come out tomorrow at 5:30 eastern time. There should be a link to set up your account in that email. At least there was one for me.

oh it was in my spam…fail

@byebyebirdy Where on this planet have you read that an interview has anything to do with Brown’s eventual decision? U have over 80 posts on this site. I can’t believe you’ve not read posts where people are inquiring about interviews. Why are you choosing to moan over this non-fact now? I get that people are nervous but you’re pulling out a self-inflicted wound. Get away from the computer and have some fun.

This is such an insane process I have no idea how I feel right now.

I was accepted to my safeties (UMiami with pres scholarship, Muhlenberg with 3 diff scholarships and the honors program, Brandeis) but didn’t get into my target schools (rejected from Vandy, Swarthmore, and Tufts, WL at Vassar and Wesleyan). Then I got into one of my top choices, Duke!!!

I was deferred ED from Brown, I guess what I thought made sense for me weren’t the right places for me? We’ll see what happens with Brown and Dartmouth, at this point it seems more likely that I get into Dartmouth than Brown.

Don’t freak out if you’ve been rejected from lower schools than Brown. If I hadn’t heard from Duke yet Id currently be feeling worthless, but now I’m super excited and not as worried about tonight’s outcome!!

Anything can happen guys!! Good luck

@mcelestial That’s crazy. I love hearing stories like yours! Congratulations on Duke. Fantastic!

Let’s play nice everyone! @T26E4, I get where you’re coming from but I guess there’s always that fear that some side of you was hidden from the adcoms without the interview.

Thanks @Quijote‌. @T26E4‌ I’m sorry if I’ve offended you in some way. I was the only Brown applicant at my school to not be offered an interview, and its hard to not feel as if that is personal. I really thought CC would be the place where people would understand my fear, but I guess not. Some schools, like Cornell, are clear about the purpose of their information session/interview. Brown was not, and I wanted to clarify. I couldn’t find clear information. I can’t believe that after 18,512 posts you don’t have it in you to respond kindly to freaked out seniors.

Ahhh I’m so nervous

@byebyebirdy Please let me apologize for being harsh. I’m sorry that you weren’t aware of the generalized unimportance of interviews. cf. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/brown-university/810532-brown-interview-faq-and-answers-p1.html

I can attest to you 100% that the interview process for schools like Brown have only minimal affect for only a small number of applicants.

From the Brown Admissions Web Page:

And

Also, there is more detail on the Brown interview process and purpose here on CC: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/brown-university/810532-brown-interview-faq-and-answers-p1.html

Best of luck to all today!

“I was deferred ED from Brown, I guess what I thought made sense for me weren’t the right places for me?”

@mcelestial: You captured it.

I disagree that Brown is not clear about the purpose for alumnus interviews. This is what is said on the Brown Admissions webpage under FAQ/Interviews:

How important are the alumni/ae interviews?

The conversation you will have with a graduate of the University is just one aspect of your Brown application. Our alumni/ae write to us about the strengths they see in candidates based on one relatively brief encounter. Rarely will an interview be the determining factor in an application. We suggest that you view it as an opportunity to learn more about Brown and to further convey your best qualities as a student and person.

@failinglife‌ I’m the same way! My grades and curriculum in high school are good (3.8 unweighted gpa, 7 AP’s, 3rd in class, 1 dual enrollment course) but I’m worried my 30 act will bring me down. However I’m really happy with my essays so we’ll see what happens. I hope we both have some luck!

This is what it says now!..

Dear Applicant to the Class of 2019,

@UChicagoLuvr‌ Yes, financial aid will be in the portal. I logged in now and this is the message that’s there:

Financial Aid Applicants
In preparation for the release of admission decisions, information regarding your 2015-16 financial aid application will not be available until after admission decisions are made available. Applicants to the Class of 2019 will be able to view their financial aid status after viewing their admission decision. Current Brown students, please check back on April 1st to view your application requirements.

@failinglife My stats are posted in the ED Results thread. Good luck today! Hopefully we will be PLME’s together!

@addiep22 I used the Common App prompt “Some students have a background or story that is so central to their identity that they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.” I basically wrote all about myself and what makes me who I am as a person. I put everything in there that I wanted them to know that was not anywhere else in the application/LOR’s.

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE ELSE TODAY!

I feel for all of you waiting for decisions! I feel like I am back on December 11th, just like it was yesterday.
