Brown University class of 2021 ED applicants discussion

Hey guys,

Since fall is going to be here before we know it, I thought that I should put up a discussion thread for ED applicants of the Brown U class of 2021. Feel free to discuss all aspects of the university and/or your applications. Good luck!

id love to apply early to brown, but unfortunately my gpa is too low :frowning:

@onemorechanceplz there’s no such thing as a minimum GPA for Brown.

true but my chances would be unlikely regardless

Ayyyyy,

I’m applying to ED Brown. My brother goes there. They gave him sweet financial aid and a great education. I would be so lucky to attend!

@czebos same here… Kinda why I started the thread… Anyways, do you know what our brother’s stats were when he applied? I’m in middle 50 for ACT and on the higher end of GPAs but I was wondering exactly how hard it is to get in ED

He had roughly a 3.95 when applying. His act was a 33. He was very ambitious and passionate about his major and I think he really fit the university.

@czebos did he apply ED? I’ve been told that I fit right in. I have a slightly higher GPA and a 32 (32.25 to be exact lol) on the ACT. Also a 33 super scored. Since he’s your brother that’ll give you a leg up. I don’t have any hooks (except for being a full pay student but Brown is need blind) so that’s why I’m a little worried.

@czebos Do you know how good the financial aid is for middle class families? Thanks!

Another question: what is the average GPA and SAT/ACT score for ED admits?

how do we sign up for an interview?

@allima you have to send in your application first. Once that is done, you’ll have the option to have an interview. I’m not sure if the school contacts you or if you contact the school. I believe the school contacts you or an interviewer near you and then you set up the interview from there.

@miyakoiwata we’re at the Lower end of the middle class, but we recieved great financial aid! The averages for Ed should roughly be the same as the RD, maybe even slightly higher.

@ap012199 He did not apply ED. I’d say as long as you’re true to your application and that it represents you, then brown will find you, so don’t worry.

I plan on applying to Brown ED depending on my ACT score in September. Does anyone know what ACT score is good enough to have a competitive chance in the ED applicant pool?

@Seirien I know 32 is the average… I think if you have at least a 30 and some really good ECs and essays you’ll have a chance.

@ap012199 ah, okay. Thanks. But I’m also curious if anyone knows how big of a factor is the score of the ACT essay for Brown as well? And if anyone knows the average for that ?

@Seirien I think it depends which concentration you apply with. I will go into the Literary Arts concentration if I get accepted, so I think the admissions committee would used my ACT essay a little more. Remember, though, that they will base your writing heavily upon your personal statement. I know that 30 on the ACT essay is the 98th percentile, but I don’t know the average for Brown. My guess is that it’s in the high 20s. I don’t think that your ACT essay score will lead to an admittance or a rejection.

I’m also planning on applying to brown ED this fall. My GPA and AP scores are good and so is my class rank. I also have decent ECs and leadership roles however my SAT scores are weak (1240 out of 1600), does anyone know how much of a factor standardized testing is? Luckily , I will be taking the ACTs this fall and will be retaking the SATs.

@jesssssw lucky for you, I just spoke to a Brown admissions personnel about standardized testing. To quote him exactly, he said that “We’ll certainly see it [the ACT], but our academic focus is on your transcript (course progression and grades received).” Hope this helps!

This is very helpful, thank you!!
