Does anyone know if we can send in both SAT and ACT but not SAT subject tests?
@marchingahead I think so. Since Brown states that they don’t need SAT subject test scores of you are submitting the ACT, you could probably just submit the SAT reasoning test along with it. I’m not sure about this, though.
I took the ACT and got a 33, but my writing score was very low (18)… Then I took it again and got a 32 and my writing score was a 24… I know I should send both in, but Brown’s website says “We recommend, but don’t require the writing section” and I was just wondering if sending a lower composite score will look bad because I didn’t increase this time?
@appcolleges7 Brown’s website says, “For the ACT, we consider the highest scores submitted for each section; however, we do not calculate a super scored ACT Composite score.”
What are the supplementary essay questions that we need to answer? Sorry, I failed to find the 2016-2017 ones.
@marchingahead create a common app and they will be on Brown’s tab
Hi!!! I’m also thinking of applying ED this fall, but I think I’m not confident of my chances score-wise.
I have 4 test scores:
Old SAT: 1960
New SAT: 1370
ACT: 28
SAT Bio: 680
I hope to retake the ACT in September and take the SAT Math 2 in October.
I have a GPA of 3.64 unweighted and 3.78 weighted.
I have one or two strong volunteer/ECs but no awards or honors of any kind.
Despite all this, I’m hoping my personality will get me in. I feel the Brown is a really good fit for me in terms of location, happiness, and opportunity. It’s quirky and I love it.
Is my dream reasonable? And what score (ACT, old SAT, new SAT) should I send.
Anything else I can do besides writing awesome personal statements?
@CocoaPie if I were you I would send the 1960, but they’re all pretty close to one another. The good thing is that Brown looks for interesting students who are more than just numbers. Try to get to at least a 31+ on that ACT in September. Good luck!
Hi!! I am applying ED to Brown for the 2021 school year. I have good grades (4.45 gpa, ranked 4th out of 276, and 13 AP classes upon graduation) and a few hooks (presenting original research at a national medical conference and being interviewed on CNN, state qualifying gymnast, and a editorial published in our city’s enquirer). However, my ACT is a 30 (E: 33, M: 32, CR: 29, S: 27, W: 23), which is below average. If I write really good essays, do you think my grades and ECs can offset by ACT scores?
@clgahs2017 I wouldn’t worry too much about it, but if I were you, I would take it again just for comfort. Your GPA, class rank, and accomplishments definitely outweight your just-below-average ACT score for Brown. Just wondering, are you of recruit able level for gymnastics (if you’re a guy I guess that wouldn’t apply to Brown)?
@ap012199 I am probably not of recruit level, although I could possibly be a walk-on. So I don’t really know if that will be in my favor.
how optional is the writing portion of the act?
@allima Brown recommends that you take the ACT with the writing portion.
@clgahs2017 impressive, but gee thanks for making me feel unqualified :((
@ragsmyselfandI Just looking at the ED applicant pool for 2020 and the 2021 just makes me feel like a trash applicant. :((
@Seirien this is the only ED 2021 thread right?
If for example 3 people from the same school all apply to brown, will they hesitate to accept all those three? Like if all of them are unique in their own ways.
No. If all of them are unique in their own way and all of them would fit Brown, then Brown would accept all 3 of them. My high school didn’t have that many that kids get into Brown last year (they probably just didn’t apply lol), but we had multiple kids (like 5 or 6) apply to Stanford early and get in. So at these top schools it doesn’t matter whether other kids from your school apply. Just focus on making your application the best it can be.
@ap012199 I believe so. I’m just going by the small stats people are posting here and there.
For those who are interested, here are the Class of 2020 admissions data that Brown recently updated on their site.
