Brown University class of 2021 ED applicants discussion

oh, no… so if we only see the “student” tab, we haven’t been accepted? i’m a bit confused and concerned now.

@ap012199 I’m from NYC and visited the campus over spring break last year and loved it. I had an alumni interview a few weeks ago which went really well. Who knows. Lesson is wherever we end up, we’ll be okay!

@littlemousling That’s all I see too. I’m not going to get worried about it.

Please don’t worry about tabs! It isn’t even December yet. Even if some see their online portal change as the announcement date approaches, it will be totally random and won’t mean much if anything for other people! Hang in there. It’s hard to stay calm… I’m “just” a parent and even I’m stressed about it! My daughter absolutely LOVES Brown. But truth be told, a year from now, all the Brown applicants will be settled in and happy, wherever you all may end up. HOPEFULLY BROWN, of course!!!

^^ words to live by

ahh okay i won’t stress  but technically, we might be able to figure out if we’ve been accepted just by the tabs on our portal? before the decision day? :open_mouth:

LOL I don’t know but in my household, there may be a login or two, or ten, before the announcement date.

Do you think that being from the Midwest is a hook since Midwesterners are underrepresented at Brown?

@clgahs2017 which state? I wouldn’t quite call it a hook, but it’s better than being from a state like NY or CA (where I’m from). It may give you a little more leeway in terms of stats than applicants from the aforementioned states.

so idk if this is considered a hook or not, but i recently self-published a book (haha that rhymed) and it’s on the amazon kindle store. it relates to what i want to do in the future (like, the subject matter) and my interest in writing which i really emphasized on my app. i sent the link to my book on the kindle store as a supplement. do you think this will help me a bit? idk ahhh:( the rest of my app is strong, except for my sat scores which are a tad low (1420 on the new sat)…

Being published is v impressive I’m sure that will definitely help!

@littlemousling I’m sure it’ll count as an impressive EC!! I’m currently writing a fiction novel but I didn’t want to rush it to link it to my app. I just mentioned that I was working on one for my writing internship/writing, general EC on the activities section.

@allima thank you thank you!! i really hope so
@ap012199 oh my goodness that’s amazing! no it’s so good that you didn’t rush- mine has been finished for a time now but it’s kind of rough in terms of the editing. but wow good for you! i hope you go far with your book and really hope you get accepted! just from what i’ve seen, you seem like a really strong applicant haha

@littlemousling lol thanks!! But I can’t get my hopes up!! Honestly I’d love to go to any college on my list, and I’m sure I’ll get into at least a couple (fingers crossed).

You seem like an awesome applicant too!! We’re all hoping for the best

Does anyone use Naviance??? I swear to god I just went and looked at the Brown stats for my school on our Naviance (because I’m obsessive like that), and for the class of 2017 it said “24 total applicants … 1 accepted”!!! So maybe the “total applicants” gets to be inaccurate because people can still add it for RD later this year but… What?! 1 accepted??? Does anyone know if there’s literally any case in which someone would have already been admitted right now? Athletes? I have no idea but now I’m bugging out does Naviance know people’s acceptances before we do

@sadb0ys I don’t think that’s very accurate. Go to Colleges I’m Applying To and you can switch your status to “Accepted” and that will change the number of people attending on the stats page. So the user does it, it doesn’t automatically hook up with Brown’s acceptances. My school has 3, lol.

@sadb0ys no. It’s usually self reported by students. For my school last year 1/5 students got in (yup, my school is super small). 5 kids are applying this year also; 2 of them ED (me and a PLME kid). No one from my school has gone to Brown though. Last year was the first graduating class. Hopefully I can give Brown a school diversity bump!!

It is possible that an athlete has already self reported his acceptance. A girl from my school already got into Stanford.

@CollageWhat @ap012199 phew okay thanks guys-- I’ve had many a freak out related to this college decision lately :))

@ap012199 just hearing the statistics about your school makes me jealous lol. Over the last 5 years where about 20 people applied, none of them got in lol. No one in my school’s history that I can see has ever gotten into Brown before. :frowning:

@Seirien I wouldn’t worry too much about it unless your school has been “blacklisted” so to speak.
