Hey fellow seniors! I thought I’d make a thread for all students applying to Brown University Regular Decision for fall 2017! We can discuss any questions about the application here! Let’s do this!
Borderline of applying. Love the open curriculum but hate the liberal dominance. I’m not necessarily conservative, but idk if I can handle 4 years of being surrounded by SJWs.
Was going to apply ED (even made a thread for it lol) but I’m leaning towards Harvard SCEA (plus I have legacy there). I really love Brown but the liberal political scene may be too much for me. I would consider myself a liberal, but I’m not liberal enough to go out of my way to protest against conservative views and stuff like that.
Are any of you guys planning to study engineering at brown?
@LeavesintheTrees I may minor in it if that’s possible (or double major).
I’m guessing this kid is applying ED.
I’ve also heard many people tell me that Providence is a super sketchy town. Anyone want to refute or qualify this claim?
Providence has improved immensely in the past decade or so. It is becoming a very nice, small city, and Brown is in one of its nicest areas. There are plenty of restaurants and shops around the campus, and it is all well integrated with the university. It’s said that of the Ivies, Harvard and Brown are the best integrated into their cities. Hope this helps @ap012199
@LeavesintheTrees I’m applying engineering! (I put my second major on the Common App as Sociology, since I’m interested in double-majoring in the two.) When I visited Brown, it was absolutely beautiful. I also love the liberal culture there–it’s one of the things that attracted me to Brown.
@LeavesintheTrees I am brotha, I wanna go BME. Either the general engineering (wanna go electrical maybe) or neuroscience would be my second choice. Open curriculum+engineering makes me salivate…
Good luck chiefs. It’s about to get rough for us seniors :-SS :)>-
@ap012199 I spent three weeks in the summer there last year. Never felt unsafe, and I walked around the campus and downtown providence in the evening a lot.
I’m definitely looking forward to Brown, I just loved the environment there.
I’ve been working on my supplementals and the word maxes are so difficult! 100 words and 150 words is not enough! Brown is my top choice (but ED is not an option bc I need to compare aid packages), so I’m hoping my responses will stand out…it’s certainly tough, though.
Brown is definitely my top choice, but I need some grades from college classes this semester to make up for a bad grade in a college class last spring.
The campus was absolutely gorgeous when I visited, and I loooooved the open curriculum.
Hi I’m from New Zealand and I will have finished my senior year in high school by the end of November this year but will not have my end of year exam results until mid January 2017. However, we complete many assessments throughout the year that count towards our overall grades. Should I send in the results from this year (my senior year) for the School Report on Common App as I am only a few months off completing that year or from last year (my junior year which I finished in November 2015)?. Also, should I send in a Mid-year report? And if so, for what grades (my junior or current senior year).
Thank you!!!
For those of you applying engineering, do you guys plan on answering the engineering-specific questions as one essay or separately?
@mack158 I’d send in your most recent official grades when you submit your application, and then send them your final senior grades as soon as they’re available (even if it’s after the application deadline).
The supplements are tough to answer in such a small wc, but Brown is perfect… would love to go here but I don’t really have a lot of hope that I will get in!
Seconded, @chimley ! How on earth am I supposed to say why I want to got to Brown in only 150 words?
Hello everyone, I wish everyone luck & success at the applications! I’ve finished mine and will send it 2 weeks later
When you access your Brown account, what does it look like? I have heard that it changes depending on if they have admitted you already? Anyone? Also can anyone go under the Personal Section and Access meal plans?
@ap012199 Providence seemed nice when I visited. Much better than New Haven lol
