****Brown University Class of 2021 Regular Decision Thread****

LL are for athletes in ED round
for RD applicants, LL are sent out to very strong applicants as a sort of recruiting tool to compete against other schools

I’m confused. Why does LL stand for? Does only Brown do it? My friend got his today but he isn’t an athlete.

LL = Likely Letter. Other schools use it to to alert Regular Decision applicants that they really want that they are in and can make appropriate planning. My D got one from Columbia and Smith College. I actually thought if she got one it would be from Brown because I thought her essays were great whereas for Columbia she rushed something out after being deferred at her SCEA school.

LL stands for Likely Letters. (Which I am not gonna get anyway lol!)
My counselor told me today that he had a call from Brown admissions office and he re-enforced his recommendation of me and spoke good things about me.
What does it mean? Is this a good thing? Is this just mean that they’re considering me seriously…? (I hope they do…)

I received a likely today! Not an athlete btw.

@MadAstro yes it means they are considering you but you’re on the edge, I think.

Got one today!

Has anyone received a LL yet? There haven’t been many threads about them this year.

There is some discussion in the Brown RD discussion on this board.

@DryMango Thanks! Just the notion of myself being considered on the edge is still pretty good I guess… lol.
About 24 days left til the grand Ivy Day!

Oh now I understand. I’ve never knew about that. What is the latest people get the letters?

@melissazaki sometimes the letters go out until mid-March. That’s the latest batch I’ve heard of. However, most of them are probably out by now.

@Mottom @lamestprincess are you international students or American?

Im American

Not trying to be rude but always take it with a grain of salt when people make an account just to say “I got a likely letter” and don’t say anything else. It happens a lot, they are mostly tr o lls. I’m referring to @Mottom , not @lamestprincess

My d received a LL last year; IIRC it arrived shortly before her spring break, which was mid-month.

DD received LL from Brown last year mid-March. Really, there is so little bearing on admissions. Only a few hundred LLs go out for something like 30K RD applicants. So obviously many more people will get in who do NOT get LLs than who do. I would be quite surprised if more than one or two on the CC boards were ever to receive a LL from any given school during any year’s admissions cycle. Also FWIW, the LL comes w NO info on FA, which is, per Ivy policy, all need-based.

@DryMango That explains why so many people create accounts when decisions go out.

Have you guys ever done very poorly on a test after junior year? What were your reactions then? I did so poorly on a Calc test today, and I am beyond depression and anxiety. My calc grade so far is an A+, but I bet it would drop to a B+ if not B-. Do you think this might raise a red flag, considering the fact that my calc grade in last semester was A+?

@StudioGhibli I made an account just to respond to you! My daughter went through the same anxious scenario a week ago and I feel so bad for all the students who are waiting to hear back from colleges! I will tell you the same thing I told her…first and foremost colleges do not receive real time updates…your application materials and midterm grades are already in front of the admissions committee. They certainly won’t see your calculus grade until after they have made a decision. Even if they see your final report and a B in Calc…its calc…not math 101 you will be fine. The fact that you are so worried tells me that like my daughter you take your studies seriously and it is your work ethic that will carry you forward in life…not the college you receive admission to…so good luck and try to stop worrying so much…you’ve given it your all and you will be fine (even if you get a C gasp!!!)
