****Brown University Class of 2021 Regular Decision Thread****

Still no interview request

Why don’t you give admissions a call in the morning? The date by which interviewers are supposed to have their interview form submitted is Feb 15 and I’m sure there is some flexibility in that date but the point is that is this week so they will be wrapping up interviews and you should have heard by now. It may be that they don’t have an interviewer available in your area. Just give a call so the admission’s office is aware that you were not contacted.

I like to think that the length of an interview doesn’t determine the quality. What do you guys think?

@DryMango, I agree. Most interviewers are busy people. If they are experienced at interviewing, then they can get what they need in 30 minutes. I often think two things after reading posts of people getting interviews that go on for hours.

  1. They probably had an inexperienced interviewer; or
  2. Their watch was broken and the interview did not really last for 4 hours.

I had a phone interview the other day. It was very odd because he only asked 2 questions. It only lasted around 25 minutes but i think it went well

My interview a couple weeks ago was pretty lit. It was just talking for an hour to a stranger who liked a lot of the same things as I did. I’m sure it holds little weight in the admissions process.

I was deferred ED. My school is new, so my guess is they wanted to wait for RD to compare me to others from my school. Anyone know how the deferral will affect my decision?

@ap012199 You aren’t marked as “deferred” the second time around. They review your application again as if it was your first time applying (except with a midyear report).

@mdchang99 oh really? I thought they’d know that I’ve been deferred… I guess this might be to my benefit though. Any idea when admissions are done with the review of deferred applicants?

@ap012199 No clue, I’m sure it will be finished and decisions will be released the same time as everyone else. I remember reading over Brown’s deferral thing after my Yale deference lol.

@mdchang99 yeah I hate how Brown defers so many applicants. Kind of makes it seem like a soft rejection. I ended up applying EDII to Pomona and was rejected, but at least they didn’t keep me waiting for four months lol

@ap012199 Brown is my top choice, I really hope we have good standing in the application pool. I applied to Brown and RISD separately, so I hope they still welcome my art portfolio.

@mdchang99 yeah I really want to know why I was deferred in the first place… probably just because of the amount of qualified candidates. But Brown is back at the top for me now! I don’t want to get my hopes up, however, because if they’ve deferred me once, I don’t think my chances will be any different a second time around.

@ap012199 I’m content with not going to Yale. TBH I don’t know why I applied EA to Yale over ED to Brown. I’m sure it was the binding.

@mdchang99 well it’s good that you like Brown now! It’s definitively the Ivy with the most unpredictable admissions though. Many of my friends who applied to Ivies in the past got into all of them except Brown lol

I know test scores aren’t the determining factor in college decisions, but I still have to ask: what are you all’s test scores? For the record my SAT is 1360 (730E 630M) and my ACT is 30 (35R 35E 26S 25M). And just to reiterate, yes, I know there is a holistic review, but I’m still curious.

31 act (29r 29e 34s 33m)

35 act (35, 36, 34, 36)

@PinkQuetzal9 I got deferred ED from Brown with a 34 (36E 33M 31R 34S) 30W superscore. Fingers crossed for RD!

33, 34 if superscore
