Accepted. I can’t believe it. I never thought this would happen. Brown has been my dream school since age 8. I was waitlisted last year (ED). My SAT score was nothing impressive, I only had two APs. I keep thinking they made a mistake or they’ll change their minds.
What sort of grades do you need to maintain for Spring transfers? I have a 3.8 but I may only get a 3.7 this semester (one B+)
My son is waitlisted. 4.0 GPA from a decent Institute of Tech/School of Computing, ACT 35 both math and English, research assistant of AI project, game design skills and digital media/music composing portfolio. He was rejected by Cornell/CAS CS major a few days ago. The waitlist is a little better, not sure how much chance he has though. Anybody has an idea if the wait list is just a soft reject? thanks.
Accepted! College & high school gpa 4.0
Also got waitlisted last year applying as first year student during RD round.
Accepted as sophomore transfer!!! Post my stats here:
College: a top 40 university
ACT: 34, super score 35
HS GPA: 4.08/4.00
College GPA: 3.87/4.00
International student
Major/Department: Cognitive, Linguistic, and Psychological Sciences
Recs: I believe it’s excellent. One from a professor knows me pretty well and another one from my lab advisor that I have worked together for several years.
Extra: three-year research assistant at several cognitive science and psychology labs. Poster presentation at an international conference. Co-authored publication in a peer-reviewed journal. Several other papers are currently under review. Several club leaders in the high school, pianist and keyboard player in orchestra and pit band.
Essay: I mainly talked about my interests in decision science, which is also the reason why I want to transfer. Also, I talked about how the concentration and open curriculum can help me better explore my interests.
Still can’t believe it. I think my research experience and my recommendation letter helps me a lot in the process.
Rejected
A sugarcoated rejection: waitlisted
Rejected, fall junior transfer
College: State school, average for CS
ACT: 35
SAT II: 800 physics, 800 math II
HS GPA: 3.83
College GPA: 3.84 (4.0 in major)
Major: Computer Science
Ethnicity: Asian
Recs: I hope they’re good. Worked with a research professor for two years for one rec, and the other rec was good as well since he still remembered me a year afterwards and seemed happy to write me one
Extra curriculars: undergrad researcher for 5 semesters, machine learning / deep learning paper I’m first author on was accepted by an IEEE conference workshop and will be published after the conference. The other machine learning paper I’m a coauthor of but it’s on arxiv. Several github projects on applied deep learning projects.
Essay: I felt my essays were good, got lots of feedback from my friends who are now at top CS universities. I had an extremely personal reason that I wrote about as my motivation to pursue deep learning/machine learning. My github research projects coincided well with some of Brown’s research areas so I wrote about that as well. I suppose the “why do you want to transfer” part might not have been as clear as they might have wanted it, but I didn’t want to trash on my current uni for the lack of ML opportunities so I tried to say why Brown’s a much better fit and emphasize that instead while keeping it subtle that I don’t have that kind of opportunity where I’m at.
Was hoping my EC’s would help balance the so-so academic performance, especially since I had basically no EC’s in HS.
Oh well it was always a gamble. Just got to wait for the rest of the rejections at this point.

Accepted as a spring transfer! Absolutely shocked right now, does anyone know what housing etc. looks like for spring transfers?
Rejected.
CC Honors 3.95 GPA.
If this thread is any indication, looks like Brown tends to accept mostly lateral transfers from other top schools.
Rejected
Sophomore transfer, History major, T20 university, 3.6 HS GPA (UW), 4.0 College GPA, 1540 SAT, Research + Investment Club + Model UN, great recs, didn’t apply for FA
Pissed as can be. I checked every box for their typical sophomore transfer admit (t20 peer school, high test scores, high college gpa, no FA). Must have been my high school transcript or essays that kept me out. Or non-stellar EC’s but that didn’t seem to be a requirement.
@OwlOfAthena
Being at a top school didn’t help me apparently.
Ouch, my condolences. You do have very nice stats.
is there a group for spring admits?
@transferperson6 there’s a Facebook group for transfer admit as a whole that’s on the portal, didn’t see anything for Spring though.
ah forgot to post, waitlisted
