What are the chances of getting off the waitlist?

2~3% going off of CDS for first years

Guys so I’m on the waitlist and I don’t know if I should take the offer. They said they’ll “let us know by mid-June” but I have a feeling they’re gonna drag it out till summer.

Is it worth putting myself through the pain of updating them and waiting again?

Dear XXX,

The Board of Admission has completed its review of your application and has voted to place your name on our waitlist. This year, Brown received more than 2,700 transfer applications, and we have offered admission to a very small percentage of our applicants. We sincerely hope to admit additional students from the waitlist.

If you wish further consideration of your application during our waitlist deliberations, please respond in your Brown Applicant Portal by June 1, 2021. The Board will then automatically consider your application should any space become available. We intend to notify all applicants on the waitlist of a final decision by mid-June. If at any point you wish to withdraw your application from active consideration on our waitlist, please let us know as soon as possible.

This is so true! I am also waitlisted at Brown and pondering over the same thing! To me, there are indeed several downsides with being on the waitlists:

  1. it gives you fake hope as though you’re likely to be accepted when the probability of being accepted from the waitlist is probably 1-2% as universities usually keep a huge waitlist to accommodate their institutional priorities.

  2. it makes you uncertain about where you should go. Once accepted, you always wonder if you should be fully committed to your current school or not.

  3. It makes you feel like you’re not their “first-picks.” As if you are good, but not good enough to makes us really want you like the first batch of students we offered admission to.

But obviously, the upside of replying yes to the waitlist offer is that we might sill have a very slim chance of getting in!

these are such good points, thank you! I think I’ll see how my other schools turn out and then decide.

do you think you’ll stay on the waitlist?

Same situation here. I think I’ll wait for my other decisions to come out before deciding.

I’m starting an insta group chat for accepted transfers, reply to this message with your username to be included! So excited to meet you all! love from italy

in the admitted students group chat, there are only around 20 people (some of which aren’t even transfers but resumed undergrad education students which is a diff applicant pool)

if they received 2.7k apps then that’s a 0.7% acceptance rate ■■■■■
