I initially applied for Brown University last year - got deferred, then rejected.
This year, I’m applying again! Hahah
Current GPA: 3.54/4.0 (Cum Laude- Distinction at my school)
I got A, A-, A-, A- but my B- in Stats pulled me down.
On common app, I explained my B- : I chose to do Stats during my first sem because it was the one thing I was afraid of, and I wanted to get it done and over with. But I got a D for midterms, and then had an epiphany, then worked my ass off to get an A for Finals. Hence, the B-.

SAT2: 790, 690, 730

Corporate Communications Director, Challenge to raise funds for special needs children

I’d really like to get into Brown, because it’s my dream school, and I wrote really strong essays (in my opinion)
However, please do chance me for Dartmouth, Williams and Wash U in st. louis too.
And, please do recommend schools to me: I’d like a medium/small school good at Political Science.
Hey, CatchingMyStars! I’m in the same boat as you; I applied to Brown, deferred, then rejected. Applying again this year. What a roller coaster, huh? Where are you transferring from?
Here are my stats:
Looking to transfer to Brown from Sarah Lawrence College
College GPA: 3.9 (projected, calculated by myself through a form given by the college. Grades aren’t a big thing here. It’s all about the written evaluations teachers give at the end of the semester)
HS GPA: 3.98
SAT: 2010 (620 Reading; 650 Math; 740 Writing)
SAT Subjects: English Lit = 690; Math II = 650
ACT: 29
AP: Comp Sci 5; English Lit 5; Euro History 4; Calc BC 5; Gov 4
The school I’m at currently doesn’t have majors (gasp!) and only 3 classes a semester (double gasp!), so my studies are in Writing, Latin, and Film currently. Would love to explore more which is harder than expected at my school – part of why I’m looking to transfer. Specifically, looking for Archaeology and Medieval Studies. I’m also applying to College of William & Mary and Wesleyan.
High School ECs:
Editor of Literary Magazine
Organizer in French Club
Black Belt in Karate (also teaching classes)
Archery
Guitar Lessons
Soroptomist Award
College ECs:
Martial Arts Club (Self Defense Leader/Teacher)
Christian Union
Screenwriter’s Workshop
Yoga classes
Rock Climbing Club
You seem to be in very solid footing academically, however you should be aware that the other large feature that will factor in to your ability to transfer is the very low attrition rate at Brown–a little under 2%. So, about 2000 transfers will compete for about a little under a 100 seats. Good luck.
I’m putting the final touches on them right now, CatchingMyStars! I think they’re specific and direct with just enough of my personality Best of luck with your essays!
