Convince me of what I already know (or, better yet, convince my parents) - why should I go to Brown over Duke?

-Open curriculum > complex graduation requirements
-Providence > Durham
-Grading is easier and less competitive
-Friendlier atmosphere
-Guaranteed housing without living in a sketchy part of town off-campus
-More flexible dining plan
-Much more breadth in the humanities
-Less emphasis on sports
-Freshmen live on main campus (no bussing)

Oh wow! I'm choosing between Duke and Brown too!

Ultimately, I'm choosing Brown because of the open curriculum and the fact that Durham is DEAD. And i suppose for the reasons mentioned by Kemet too. Also I went to both Blue Devil Days and ADOCH and I just fell in love with Brown campus and the students. There's a definite lack of diversity at Duke as opposed to Brown so that's one of the things that got me hooked.

Good luck with your decision!

Kemet's got it down perfectly..

Also,

IVY league (recognised all over the country and internationally) vs. not (duke is recognised more down south, as compared to brown)

"There's a definite lack of diversity at Duke as opposed to Brown so that's one of the things that got me hooked."

The number don't reflect this. The schools (and all their peers) assemble very similar classes. I wonder if perceptions are skewed because Duke hosts separate minority weekends for prospies and Brown doesn't (?). It's a practice that Prez Brodhead stopped at Yale and will probably eventually end at Duke as well.

Hey, thanks guys! I just sent my confirmation letter in today :)
