Brown v Pomona, Neuroscience

On Tuesday, I was sure that I would be going to Pomona and I was incredibly excited. Then, yesterday, much to my surprise I was not only admitted to Brown, but I also received an aid package that was less than that offered by Pomona, but close enough that I can attend either school. So now I’m very jumbled in my head, and I must begin the process of working out where I want to go…
First, for those of you who are actually attending Brown, can you give me some compelling reasons to go to Brown over Pomona? From what I’ve read, which is a fair amount, they both seem like schools where a good education is easily had, where the people are intelligent and fun, and the community is pretty strong.
Second, I’m looking at neuroscience as a possible major, and while I’m aware that my interests could change, it seems like a good idea to compare the departments as part of my decision process. Having looked at both departments, it looks like Brown has more courses that are specifically designated for neuroscience, but the overall programs look fairly comparable (at least to this layman’s eyes). Any commentary on the professors, the courses, and the general feeling of the major would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I don’t know anything about Pomona’s neuroscience, but the neuroscience program at Brown is absolutely fantastic! Many engaging professors in addition to plenty of research opportunities! It was one (if not the first) program in the country.

I did not end up concentrating in neuroscience, but many of my very close friends had wonderful experiences - many went on to medical school, or joined various labs getting top notch research positions. I was even invited to see “brain-cutting.”

Like most departments at Brown, the professors love to teach and the students love to learn. What I would do to be in your shoes right now, about to enjoy the best 4 years of your life.

Best of luck!

Yay brain-cutting!

I would go for Pomona over Brown. From what I have heard, Pomona does have a very good neuroscience program. Both schools have great programs, in general. Overall though, Pomona seems better to me.

Oh look, a ■■■■■. Check out the above poster’s other posts.

On the waitlist, manfromtheOC? If this is the way you approach competition, I sincerely hope you don’t end up at Brown.

mg, maybe he just has an opinion. wanna know why i say that? i semi-agree with him, in that both departments are excellent enough that you should choose based on other factors. you’ll end up great at either school. talk about a good set of choices!

@NapoleonInRags: My response had nothing to do with this post in particular. manfromtheOC just went to all the Brown v. X threads and, with only a generalized explanation, told the poster to go to the non-Brown school. S/he got called out about it by others, too.
