Trying to figure this one out.
Got into many schools but always was most interested in Brown and Hopkins.
May 1 coming up soon - need input!
I’m interested in international relations. I’m definitely not a science/math type and not a pre-med etc etc.
Hopkins seems known as a grind with unhappy students who score their profs low. Got a different impression when i was there and SAIS is amazing.
Interested in any/all points of view…

I think you would be happier at Brown if you really don’t like math and science. I don’t like math and science either, but I’m not choosing Brown because Penn’s requirements are essential in a career in anything and I need the balance between structure and freedom.

I don’t know that much about Hopkins, but if they have a lot of useless requirements, why bother? That’s why I’m probably rejecting Princeton.

Brown has a great IR program, and it’s one of the more popular majors. Within the program you have 4 different tracks you can choose from, depending on what focus you want to pursue (economics, culture, environment, etc). And because of the no requirements thing it’s easy to supplment IR with another major, like poli sci, history, or economics (you can double-count 2 requirements for both majors). I went to Brown and enjoyed the classes and opportunities I got out of the IR program there, so that’s my two cents :)

Dude, JHU’s IR school is literally the best in the nation. Like, SAIS and Georgetown’s IR school (I forgot it’s name, hmm) are the Harvard/Yale of international relations programs. But assuming that there was no Princeton, Stanford or MIT. What I’m saying is that it’s far and away the best (along with Georgetown’s). Also I’d disagree with the grind thing. Hopkins is a work hard, party hard school. And they throw GREAT parties haha.

Anyway I know I seem like a propagandist right now, but I just wanted to post the other side of the story, that you won’t really get because you’re in the Brown forum. Brown is a great school, you can’t go wrong no matter what choice you end up going with.
