Brown versus Pomona campus culture

Currently, I’ve visited only Pomona, and while I felt like everyone was really nice and welcoming, there was something that felt a bit off there. I don’t know quite how to describe it, but it felt a little less like a college, and a bit more like a high school in terms of how everyone acted. By high school, I don’t mean that there were cliques and things like that, but the students themselves just didn’t seem like college students to me as compared to UCLA USC, or UCSD. Of course, I don’t mean anything bad by this, and each person has different colleges that feel right for them, so I don’t want to seem like I’m putting Pomona down. Basically though, I’m asking if Brown campus culture is like Pomona as well, because I haven’t been able to visit Brown yet, but from what I’ve found on the internet, I feel like it may be like Pomona in that way a bit. What has your experience been? Also, am I alone in feeling that way about Pomona, or have other people felt the same vibe?

This is interesting, because I’m thinking of transferring out of Pomona into Brown…
I have no idea what Brown is like, but there are some specific classes and fields I want to explore that aren’t offered here. Pomona is awesome, but it’s still small–which means less diversity, not just in terms of people, but in political mindsets, course offerings, clubs, resources, etc. I agree with the poster above–I don’t regret choosing Pomona either, and it’s definitely way different from the typical screen portrayal of college. I would say it’s pretty similar to going to a private school. I would also consider whether you want to be in a more urban environment; Pomona is pretty far from everything. It doesn’t feel like you’re in the real world sometimes.
