which one? especially for pre-med?

it doesn't matter, especially for premed. just go to whichever one you like more

What factors are important to you when applying to college? What are things you desire from your university? What aspect of the atmosphere is most important to you? What are you seeking from your college experience?

I'm conservative so the ultra-liberal part of Brown scares me. Is it really that bad? Also if you're athlete, is the student body segregated? How do the research facilities compare to Duke?

That's a thread I posted in extensively about liberalism at Brown. As for athletes-- they tend to hang out together frequently, but that's just a function of how much time they spend together. It's very easy to make friends with people you spend 5 hrs a day with. However, I'm friends with several athletes, so it all depends on what you want to do -- you can make other friends easily, or you can stick with the team.

What do you mean in terms of comparing research facilities?

I mean the research opportunities. For example, Duke has the Lemur Center which no other place has.

I am not familiar with Duke or what it offers, what I can say is that Brown does offer UTRAs which allow pretty much every professor at Brown to have at least one undergraduate each summer working to do research with them receiving a $3000 stipend. Research for one year for credit as course work is required for nearly every science major and is required for honors in nearly every humanities. These courses for credit in research can be taken as many times as you want for credit, so each year you can receive credit if you find a position. I was easily able to find research for this summer as a sophomore when I sought it out and I am quite pleased with the two professors I will be working with, the three other undergraduates (it's a Team UTRA) and the work that I'll actually be doing.

The bottomline-- professors at Brown do research, and Brown very much feels that it's undergraduates should be a part of that research so we do strongly encourage these interactions.

jump in on the duke thread and see what they ahve to say too

If I have to read about Brown's med school ranking one more time. ****, if I have to hear about PLME one more time in a thread that doesn't mention it...

There is a lot more to the story than what the Duke kid is letting on about PLME (I'm neither PLME nor premed).

Both schools are going to get you where you want to be if you do well there. The question is which environment are you going to thrive in.

the real question is (and i'm sort of serious): how much do you like Duke basketball?
