<p>Both are the same for money. I am going to major in Computer Science.</p>
<p>Brown is #20, and UCLA #14 in the rankings for CS.</p>
<p>I’ve gotten great reviews all from CC and Private messages about Brown’s CS department. UCLA also seems really great, but it’s a HUGE school, which is the the turnoff.</p>
<p>Am I making the right choice with Brown for CS? Will getting a job/internship/summer job at like Microsoft or Amazon be harder if I end up going to Brown?</p>
<p>Also, campus life, weather, social life is great for both.</p>
<p>I won’t say it’s guaranteed, but jobs at Microsoft, Google, etc seem to have a almost direct pipeline from Brown CS to there, including some very lucrative summer internships. There are lots of Brown grads at those places facilitating that entry. I know a dozen or so of Brown CS grads (spanning 25 yrs) and they are all well employed at Google, Microsoft, IBM, or by choice teaching some high level college CS/college research in CS. (and those all seem to be jet setting all over the world giving courses and lectures).</p>

<p>Brown CS is amazing from what I have experienced so far as a freshman. The past few months there have been tons of people getting into facebook, microsoft, and Google summer internships, even some freshmen. You will have no problem getting hired to company like facebook by the time you graduate.</p>
<p>From another aspect, the CS community here is really tight! We have free pizza all the time at tech talks and recruiting talks (every CS company you have heard of recruits here). We have also played a few games of assassins and there’s a nerf gun you can mess around with in the main computer lab, stuff like that. Also, the TA system is really great here so you will always have tons of support in all of your classes. Not to mention you will be able to get a TAing position yourself, which is a great way to get better at CS and something for your resume. Obviously, this shouldn’t be a deciding factor in your decision, but just something I thought I would add.</p>

<p>if money is not an issue, go to Brown. Brown is an Ivy league school, while UCLA is a member of UC-system, which one is better or more prestigious, go figure. There are lots of UC-regents scholars can’t even get into Brown. Besides, you get much more attention in Brown than UCLA. After you graduate does UCLA regent mean any to employer?!</p>
<p>When it comes to prestige, the difference between Brown and UCLA is negligible. Many employers are impressed with UCLA – especially ones in California.</p>
<p>Job wise, all those software companies recruit at Brown, and you should have no problem getting internships and jobs. I’ll echo all the other advice you’ve gotten, which is that Brown’s CS department is excellent, with wonderful contacts. </p>
<p>I think your choice needs to come down to: Do you want to stay in California or live in New England for four years? Do you want a huge school or a medium-size school? Do you want to wear shorts year round or buy a winter coat? Do you want to go to school in your home town or travel many hours on an airplane across the country? Those are all very personal decisions that we can’t help you with.</p>
<p>Are you a flip flop wearing sun loving kind of person or are you a New England traditionalist who loves a place with four seasons of the year?
If both schools will get you where you need to go & finances are not an issue, you have the luxury to further consider personal fit.</p>
