Brown vs. UPenn

I’ve never done this before but I decided to try because I’m really having trouble with this decision. I got into Brown and UPenn as a transfer and I can’t decide where to go. Here are the factors that I’m considering:

– I am looking to major in Cognitive Science and minor in South Asian Studies
– I am really interested in Hindi but my previous school didn’t offer it in higher levels
– I wanted a larger school in an urban area
– I really love dance and would love to get involved but I have no training in it
– I loved the academic freedom of Brown because of my diverse interests (and it was my first choice as a freshman) but I find that good advising is important to me
– I am from D.C. and have enjoyed living in the city. My previous school was very suburban which I found very frustrating when I needed to get into the city (suburbs of Boston).
– Socially, what is the atmosphere at these schools? I am pretty quiet and introspective and make friends slowly. I also am a little intimidated by what I’ve heard about the competitiveness of Penn.
– And if anyone knows, what is the transfer community like at each school?

If you have any other notes or comments about what you know or have experienced, I’d be very grateful. Thank you for your help!

Oooh tough decision. Based on your decision factors, there seems to be advantages in each school. However, overall, I would go with Brown. You seem like a very unique person, and you would fit in really well

@BonneChance23 i don’t think the decision is that tough. I feel penn can give you more opportunities in general due to to the fact That most of it’s departments are stronger than brown’s and cognitive science is a very interdisciplinary major. Also to address the flexibility/freedom point, penn has no core curriculum which gives students a lo of flexibility and freedom to pursue what they want. At the same time he curriculum is structured enough so that you will be properly guided and won’t get lost. Yes Penn is very competitive but if it is not unreasonable for an elite school and in fact this conpetitive atmoshpere will toughen you up and prepare you well for future success. I know penn has a very close-knit transfer community the organize gatherings, Dinners etc and I have heard the community is a great resource to navigate life at Prnn as a new transfer.

I can’t help in any way but I’m from NOVA lol what’s good
