Hi. Brown and Wesleyan are now my top two choices. I was wondering if either school is notably a better fit for an aspiring writer (creative/fiction writing). Also, is either’s english department notably better? I, of course, intend to major in English and write, so this is important to me.

I have heard Wesleyan’s English department specifically mentioned as standout, but I don’t know what is really what.

So please. All responses welcome.

Thanks, people.

Brown is well-known for its English dept as well. A third option with a top-notch Engl dept would be Amherst College.

brown has great programs in english and comparitive literature, but also has an awesome program for aspiring writers in literary arts. in addition, there are several gugenheim and pulitzer prize winning faculty members (one was the first african american rhodes scholar), and a really cool international writers program that brings persecuted writers from around the world to teach at brown

thank you, much. i had never come across the literary arts progam before; it looks awesome.

I'm not a English major, but like many others I had to make the Brown-Wesleyan choice.

I'd just suggest to apply to both and not worry "which to choose/which is better/which is better for you" until sometime in April when you've been accepted to both. If that doesn't happen, well, consider it lucky because the hard decision was made for you! :)
