Yeah it’s great to have choices…but it can also generally stink. I never expected to get into Yale and only applied because my Dad suggested it. I reused old essays and waited with Brown as my top choice. Now that I’m in both with $10,000 per year better aid at Yale (I’ve contacted Brown’s financial aid office to look into matching it) I’m pretty torn. I feel like I would love it at Brown (perhaps have a bit too much fun?) but I feel like I owe it to myself and my family to go to Yale. I’m not sure how to pass up their Film Studies program and all the benefits that come along with a Yale education. I know I should “go with my gut” and “whichever place fits” but, truly, half my heart is stuck at each place. Any suggestions?

P.S.
Frankly, I was surprised by Brown’s fin. aid. I was offered signifigantly more money at every single college including Northwestern and Columbia.

barski222, i was in the same position (though admittedly five years ago). i loved both schools and eventually went with brown because the open curriculum was really important to me. $10,000 is a big deal, so like Rabo said, i'd wait to see if brown will match it (i think there's a good chance they will). then go to both admit days and see how that influences your "gut feeling". odds are you will continue to feel a little torn, but one will seem a little more enticing and then you have to just pick it. either way, five years down the road, i doubt you'll have any regrets about the decision. those are great options--congrats!

If you got $10,000 at Brown instead of Yale, I'd tell you to go to Brown- no doubt.

Both are excellent schools, and I'd wait to see if Brown gives up the extra cash.

Yale was my first choice (until I got rejected... I'm very much over it, though), so I might as well say the things I liked about Yale: residential college system (it's really nice and creates close friends and a strong community... that's probably the thing I don't like about Brown- the fact that the community isn't very strong), good fun and good parties and the people are much more chill than you would expect, happy students, small classes, good arts scene, and beautiful campus.

honestly, if i were in your position, i would choose brown haha...i am deathly jealous, i wanted brown soo bad. then again, i'm also the girl very likely to pass over wharton for NYU.

anyway, i think you should choose whichever one you really want to, provided brown matches, or comes close. however, if paying for college is a significant burden on your family, i would say go to yale. i think 90% of people our age will be able to adjust to almost any college environment, and love their school as viciously as if they had chosen another. but good luck!
