Hey, I want to apply to Brown and I’m wondering how likely it is that I will be accepted. I have a 4.4 W GPA taking a total of 7 AP courses and all honors for the rest (for what I was allowed). Im in the top 10% of my class, will have been playing varsity football and lacrosse for 3 years each, am the Secretary of the Junior Class, am a leader of 3 other clubs, am in NHS and have an SAT of 2040. I have also gone on an out of country mission trip, have legacy to Brown, will receive at least commemoration (?) for the National Merit Scholarship (if I’m not a semi-finalist), and have a part time job. I plan on dedicating a lot of time to my essay. and will have some solid recommendations.
SAT score looks a little low for Brown and they look at unweighted I believe.
^ a lot low actually
Without your legacy, you’re are totally out of reach due to your SATs. With legacy, I’d say you’re 50/50. Even more if your family has been generous.
Good thing I’m taking it a second time in January
@rossbusiness @soze @tina23, i didn’t study the first time around but I did this time and got a 770 in math, 620 in writing and 650 in reading on the previous test, will I be able to get it up?
You have one last chance in January. For writing, just study grammar rules, and for reading study vocab.
All in all do a bunch of practice tests, review them and understand why you got each question wrong.
Buy Erica Meltzer’s SAT books on Critical Reading and Writing if you still have time.
You probably need a 2200+ with 700+ on every section to be competitive for Brown. Unweighted GPA also matters more than weighted.
Legacy adds a lot at Brown.
Did you know that Brown has free college advising services through the alumni association? It is for all your colleges not just advising for Brown, even if you weren’t going to apply. Your parent should take advantage of that.

Brown legacies have significantly a higher admit rate, maybe as high as 30pct but maybe not, certainly not 50. But you should not feel comfortable about that because it is so difficult. Visit the Brown forum here and look at the threads of admits, deferred and rejected students who applied ED. If you dare, it is quite a reality check, although more people who did get in likely post.

When you say Brown, do you mean light Black?
I have a 3.9 UW, but thank you
Yes
It’s so hard to say for anyone! Your SAT is a little low, so I would definitely retake. Hopefully your legacy will help you. Good luck!
