what are the strongest programs at brown? is economics one of them? seeing as i would be a triple legacy and have pretty strong stats i was considering applying. ulimately my goal is to go to graduate business school for an MBA. would brown be a good choice for these types of goals? is a degree from brown in economics or something related sufficient for elite business schools?

i think their strongest program is "interpretive dance and its effects on 20th century post modern feministic thought"

Brown would be a good choice for your interest, though so would another 100 or so schools.

My business school (Columbia) has more than its fair share of Brown grads. Brown will put you in a strong position to do whatever you want, along with the other IVies.

Funny, tcolgate, funny. You should be on the stage...there's one leaving for Albuquerque in half an hour.

The investment bank where I worked had a pretty significant number of Brown grads. Brown was held in high regard for analyst hiring, and judging by the numbers of top-school MBAs hired there who were Brown undergrads, they do well in MBA admissions too.

I have no insight on their economics department particularly. Most of the people I knew were not economics majors. To us, at that time, the demonstrated intellect and capability of the candidate was more important than any particular vocational training or major. Some economics and math courses were pretty useful, though.

I had a pretty direct role in analyst hiring in my department for several years, and one thing that I noticed is that every candidate I saw from Brown had a high GPA. I don't know if this was due to their pass-fail policy or because I only saw students that were pre-filtered.

I have two personal friends who attended Brown. They were both top students in high school, even brilliant. They both have pretty significant careers currently.

Based on these experiences, as you can tell my impression of the place is pretty positive.

Brown will definitely prepare you well if you want to go on to business school. Vitually 100% of Brown students who apply to business school get into at least one. I know that has nothing to do with the caliber of the programs that they go to, but most of them are pretty damn good.
