Brown's Economics and Math Departments

Can anyone tell me about these two departments? What makes them special, and sets them apart from the rest of the Ivy Leagues’?

that they're at Brown...duh!
i dont even go to Brown and i kno that =P

As a Brown student, I think the Econ Department might not be as stellar as some schools (Harvard, Columbia, UChicago). But in comparison to the rest of schools in the nation, it is still very good.

It is one of the growing departments, and there has been some changes recently. A new chairman was just installed this month, reshuffling in course progression, recruiting new faculties et cetera.

As for the Math Department, I have only taken the standard math (multivariate calculus, linear algebra) -- so, I don't know how the upper level courses are taught. However, Brown is a mecca for Applied Mathematics. I'm actually concentrating in Applied Math - Economics.

Having said all that, I don't think the department strength play a huge part in undergrad education. For grad school, that's another case.

In regards to math, most colleges with strong economics departments also have solid math departments. Hope this helps..

Thanks guys for all the information!
