Brown's hyperliberal rep?

Does it actually live up to it? I"m seriously considering Brown, and I hope it doesn’t. I’m a republican, not of the bible thumping kind, but of the moderate north east type.

Same here. Birch, where are you from?

Same here.

The school's very liberal. There's no denying that. But there are a number of republicans on campus...I have about 5 or 6 in my unit. And keep in mind that we're not completely closed off to other people's opinions. If you're a well informed republican, people will listen to what you have to say. The school's getting more politically diverse, slowly but surely, but expect to see a good deal of liberal propaganda around campus.

Yes, it does. Please don't let that influence your decision though, it can be really stimulating intellectually. Besides, Brown is so awesome that you don't want to give it up just because some of your peers have their heads up their asses. Don't let them ruin it for you, the non-leftists here are really tight, don't worry we'll take care of you ;-). Congrats, hope you come to Brown!

P.S. check out the college republicans and students for liberty, I'll be glad to meet you there!

Emphasis on "some people". I really don't think the school's HYPERliberal. Just...overly left.

Liberal 4 Life! Who's with me???

the liberal stereotype is overblown. i think it's died down a bit in recent years...probably due to the conservative trend of america in general.

it's true, however, that i have met very few republicans so far in my time at brown.

When you say does Brown live up to its' hyperliberal rep, Could you explain specifically what you think would happen at a hyperliberal school? There are a few Conservatives [capital C] and a good deal of people in the middle too by New England Moderate Republican standards...It is true that the overwhelming majority is liberal but if you don't take yourself or your peers too seriously, it's not that serious and certainly not a reason not to attend [on balance with all the other pluses and minuses] unless you don't want to engage on your beliefs while actively promoting them which may be an issue

I'm from CT. Thanks for the replies everyone. Anyone else?

Oh and I know Brown is very intellectually stimulating. Its also comforting that there are others like me.
