Browser with least glitches?

Apparently, the new Common Application seems to pose at least one problem per person... The Help Center recommends that we either use the latest version of Chrome or Firefox, or IE9 or higher. However each browser itself seems to pose certain amounts of problems.. What's more frustrating is that these problems are very inconsistent. One particular problem that I would like to avoid is having a problem with my payment. I certainly don't want to experience the anxiety of waiting 48 hours before my payment is processed, so I would like to ask CC users the browser you are using for Common Application and for those of you who have already submitted your application, which browser seems to work for you the best.

We used (on our Mac) Chrome and it worked smoothly much to our surprise. We were very worried based on all the comments about payment issues. My son submitted each app one by one and was able to process payment immediately and move on to the signature page and submit for each one, all in one sitting. I’ve been checking this week with each school to be sure they are actually receiving the apps on their end. Getting mixed responses on that front. Some are, some are having technical problems on the back end, and some just haven’t downloaded yet. Same issues with guidance forms. Don’t assume schools have them if they have your app. The back end interface for apps and guidance forms (at least through Naviance) are different at the colleges. And letters of rec (through Naviance/eDocs) isn’t even working yet. Its all a nightmare with CommonApp not taking responsibility.
Sorry for going off-tangent on your question. There are just a lot of moving parts to submission, none of which work well.
Try Chrome. I hope that works!

I had a PDF viewing problem with IE9 and the payment problem with Firefox. Haven’t tried Chrome yet.

I had no problems with Chrome until this week when it wouldnt generate a pdf of common app. Switched to Firefox and got pdf but when we paid we received confirmation but no signature page. Now inthe anxiously waiting 48 period.Switched back to Chrome and major freak out, signed in on my daughters acct and it had her name at the top but tons of colleges in her dashboard and her app had information from one of my students. I logged off and clear the cache on Chrome and her account returned to normal.
Irecommend clearing the cache before you submit and submit 5 days before any deadline to take into account any potential payment issues. CA is making changes to app as each day passes so who knows which browser really is the best.

Thank you everyone for giving me your advice. I’ve just had a PDF preview problem with Chrome and am thinking of switching to Firefox… But it seems that Firefox seems to have a payment issue…

Got payment account update to common app account 24 hours later so then able to complete signature page and submit the supplement. I would for sure clear the cache before you start the submission process and I would be sure to submit no later than 5 days before any college’s deadline.

If you have any trouble be sure to send a ticket describing the problem via the help center on common app.

Also I am sorry for any errors in my original response. I was typing it on my phone. Frankly this new common app and it family of software glitches is much more troublesome than last year’s version. It has me nervous so I am making sure my DD does everything with plenty of time to take care of any issues.

Today, for whatever reason, my D couldn’t log on to CA with Chrome. It’s been no problem up till now. So we switched to Safari, no problem at all. This is crazy.

@itsv Thank you for your update! I would definitely clear my cache before proceeding… It seems as if Common App cannot prevent even the minor disturbances. Sending a ticket, it seems to be, to be one of the problems which some people are having because they are complaining that the center is not replying back to them in time. This could be a patience issue in my opinion but also if an applicant has an application due next day, then it will be a whole different story.

@lab317 Thank you for your contribution. Safari seems to have minimal problems so far, but who knows. :)

We submitted 2 applications last night on Chrome without any issue. It also work fine on Firefox last night at least up to payment page but I did not go further. The only PDF preview issue we have is with a particular school only.

@billcsho I see. It seems as if Common App found out a way to fix Chrome’s PDF preview issue. I wouldn’t consider it as a complete fix, but I think once we press the zoom-in/out button on the preview screen, the blank page will disappear.

There is a list of issues with current status on CA. There are still quite a few issues being solved.

The blank page issue is due to a recent Chrome update.
