Bruin Card Question

Does the Bruin Card act as a debit card also?...for example, if my parents wanted to go online and put money on it, could i use it like a debit card at restaurants in westwood?

No, the Bruincard is limited to usage on campus restaurants. Westwood is not connectedwith the Bruincard, except for a few places which give you 10% discount for showing your card.

The only Westwood store I know that will accept the BruinCard as a debit card is at CVS Pharmacy.

Actually there are a lot of stores in Westwood that take Bruincard. Also, almost everything on campus takes it.

And yes, your parents can add money to it online.

regarding the bruincard: I heard you can take the picture for it during orientation but can we do it then? or do we have to apply for it before orientation as it said the card should be mailed to me 1-2 weeks before orientation...

If you're willing to wait up to an hour in line during Orientation.

or do we have to apply for it before orientation as it said the card should be mailed to me 1-2 weeks before orientation...

Not mandatory, but recommended.

so it is fine to not have bruincard during orientation and they'll just gave you one after taken the picture? what about the terms or w.e. we had to sign and mail with photo?

so it is fine to not have bruincard during orientation

Yes, many people are lazy to do this before orientation. Obviously, if people are in line to get the Bruincard during orientation, there is no problem.

I don't remember what we had to sign with the photo. Tell me about it.

we have to sign this http://www.bruincard.ucla.edu/customer_service/BC%20Terms%20%20Signature%2006.pdf

So if you have a bruin card you don't need to get another one, right? My daughter has one from last summer.

Was your daughter enrolled as a student here before? Depending on whether or not they issued you a new ID number depends on whether or not you need a new card. So if her ID number is different now she will most probably need a new card. I work at the Bruin Card office so I can always ask for you :)

Hi Bruinbee09,

If my orientation takes time in July, how early will I have to mail my pictures in?

Well the website says 5 weeks before orientation..and really we need those 5 weeks..just take into account the hundreds of new cards we have to print so we do need as much time as you can give us to process your card. no later than 3 weeks..but no worries if you do submit it close to your orientation date because then we will have the card printed and ready but we wont mail it to you....it will be ready for pick up at the bruincard center on your orientation date...and you get to wait in a completely different line so im pretty sure it will be much shorter than the craziness that will be the line to actually get the card from scratch. trust me you all want to send in your info instead of waiting till orientation day...printing the card takes a couple minutes but when ALOT of you want a card at once...do expect a long wait...and trust me you'd rather be mingling with your new classmates than waiting in the bruincard line...though if you do end up waiting in that line...see you all there! heh

She was in the Summer Discovery Program last summer, stayed at Hedrick Summit for six weeks, and took a UCLA class for credit. She still has her card and her UCLA email address.

I've never heard of the summer discovery program people getting to keep their card once they actually attend UCLA. I am pretty sure that card has an expiration date therefore she probably needs a new card printed. I can give you a for sure answer by tomorrow but I would still send in all the necessary information to get a new bruincard anyways just to be safe

She says her id number is the same one for summer and the one on stuff she gets now for fall.
