BruinCard photo

Has anyone sent in their BruinCard photo yet? I'm still a bit confused about the specifications - does it have to be exactly 2x2 in dimension and have a white background? I'm thinking of just taking a photo of myself with a digital camera and photoshopping the background. Is that allowed, and if so, can I just print it out on regular paper?

Also, what is the difference between the BruinCard photo and the Housing photo? Is the housing one just for my roommate(s)? I don't remember submitting a photo when I turned in my housing application.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The general consensus is that the housing photo is useless and that they don't do anything with it.
As far as the Bruincard photo, the best thing to do is to just go to Costco or something and get a passport photo from them. Those are 2x2 and on a white background per the passport requirement, so it works well.

Thanks for clearing that up for me, Icarus. How soon should I send it in? It says 5 weeks before orientation...? When are the orientations? And I can get my BruinCard at orientation, but I have to send in the photo at least a week prior to it, right?

Just to be on the safe side, I am going to get my photo and send it within the next week or so.

you should send it in as soon as possible. If you get your photo in on time, they will mail you your Bruincard about a week or so before your scheduled orientation session.

My picture looks sooo funny

I asked and they they want a passport photo two of 'em they are available at costco, mailbox etc., and other places that do pictures I got mine taken at kinko's two for 12.99 and an extra set for $5. Yeah its a ripoff but better be on the safe side and shell out the dough. My pic looks like a mugshot but I wasnt about to pay another 12.99

I sent in my photo for my BruinCard a few weeks ago. Just to be safe, I would suggest sending in an actual photo, instead of a photoshopped photo printed from the computer, because I remember reading from somewhere (maybe the bruincard website) that the photo has to be able to stand some hundred degrees Fahrenheit, as they are printed on the card. I'm not sure if glossy photo paper for printers will work for that.

btw, just a reminder that you also need to sign the Bruincard Terms and Conditions and send it along with your photo.

<a href="http://www.bruincard.ucla.edu/customer_service/bc_terms.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://www.bruincard.ucla.edu/customer_service/bc_terms.pdf</a></p>

Also, once you've sent in your Terms & Conditions and your photo, you should check back on MyUCLA to check your card status. I sent mine in a few weeks ago, and they have received and are currently processing my BruinCard right now (as stated on MyUCLA).

just take a picture of yourself against a blank white wall with a digital camera. then photshop / crop it so that it will be 2"x2" if you print it out on 4x6 paper. then just goto costco or something and develop that one picture for 19 cents + tax. that would be the cheapest way thats still developed on photo paper by a lab.

Are you sure that works?

i did it for my parents for their Chinese Visa application last summer, they also required a 2"x2" passport quiality photo with white background.

yeah, it'll work. That's what they did at the place where I got my passport photos taken. If I knew, I would've done that too. That's how they do it at the local post office too i believe. As long as there's a white background and it's a 2x2 photo then it's fine. No funny faces, hats, sunglasses, etc etc.

On the first day of orientation you could get your picture taken and receive your bruin card in a few minutes. At least thats what many transfer students did when I went to the transfer orientation last year. Its really no big deal. If you want the perfect photo you should probably take the photo yourself and send it in early. Just a thought.

Well, I've also seen posts on this board that says that the line at orientation is REALLY long.

Do it at Costco! They'll let you look at the picture on the camera before printing it out. Mine looked really good :D

I just checked myucla and it says they have received and are processing my card do any current, former, or future bruins know exactly how low it takes to actually receive your bruincard in the mail?

couple of weeks probably, but they usually say that they'll send it the week before your orientation sesssion, regardless of when it's ready
