Hey guys!

Does anyone know when ED II decisions will be out? I heard it might be early February but it didn’t seem like a super reliable source. Ughh I’m so nervous!

@sabribri070 from the BMC website:
Winter Early Decision
Closing date for applications and all supporting materials: January 1
Notification of candidates: by January 31
I think last year they released decisions in the last week of January, like on 28-29.
Good luck to you!
i’m dumb, i accidentally started a new thread instead of replying. signed up two mins ago (but have read cc for a while)
I hope its not jan. 31st as that is my 18th birthday. an acceptance then is fine, but a deferral or rejection would be horrible. grrrr.
I’m hoping that like others posting about bryn mawr in previous years, i can see the financial aid offer early. everyone who has seen that in like the past 3 years college confidential has later been accepted. (why would they do the work to later deny u?)
excited and nervous.
what are ur stats? I’m curious to see as Bryn Mawr is a reach for me.
i’m hoping because ed I knew 4 days early that we will too but the holidays might offset that
@rach131 Then if you get in it’ll be quite a great birthday! I feel your pain, I’m also excited but incredibly nervous! I had a 1950 SAT (760 cr 570 m) 3.67 uw gpa (3.95 w) and I’m valedictorian (out of a senior class of 3, though). I’m really counting on my recommendations and essays to make me a Mawrter! What are yours (or anyone else who reads this thread and wants to share)?
my situation is unique because my last two years of high school were spent at a community college due to health issues. getting my hs state diploma. no AA tho.
as a result, no honors or aps junior and senior year. took me a bit to figure out what I was going to do, so only one semester of junior grades.
my recs were great (used ones from a summer writing program- which were tweaked so i got to see them even though i waived my rights)
essay was v good so was supplement, i’m a writer so that is one of my strengths.
visited twice, interview was good.
included writing samples for the supplement that are good.
my essay was on therapy so its a tad risky but nothing too personal is in it
how do u have a senior class of 3?
for first two years uw: 3.5
w: 4.9
junior year: 4.0
senior year (thus far): 3.78
act: took it twice, one with writing (got a 10)
one without (27 and 28)
i’m pretty sure I sent both so they see the writing
i’m worried cause I got a c plus in stats for senior grades. doesn’t look so good to have that in my last grades they see. math is not my strong suit.
my mom went to grad school at bryn mawr, (for social work) does that help me any?
the only things interesting about me are writing, languages (I take spanish and italian), and the fact that i would like to be a music supervisor.
Hopefully drew will get back to me next week. it’ll be easier to wait having at least one acceptance under my belt.
I go to private school, that’s why my senior class is so small. I’m also a writer counting on that to be one of my application’s strengths. I’m sure there’s lots more about you that’s interesting! I’ve never met anyone who wasn’t interesting. What kinds of stories do you like to write?
If I recall correctly, having a relative who is an alumna can’t hurt you, but plays a minor role in your acceptance.
Your grades sound good, and I doubt they’d reject you for one C in a subject you’re not planning to major in or anything.
Good luck!
(Sorry for any weird grammar/spelling, I’m typing this from my phone.)
Good luck girls. Bryn Mawr is the best.
i tend to write mostly poetry and prose poems. i should start doing more stories. they are just more work. a different kind of thinking. and my grammar in my writing is eh so poetry is kind of a way around that, either it doesn’t require it or when it does you can make up your own rules.
at least I’m consistent with math, got a c in honors algebra 2 in 9th grade. was more the teacher than me (I also had a lot of health issues that year). had a 79.2 but halfway through she started grading my tests harder, taking off 3 points instead of 1 or 2, 5 instead of 3 or 4. if she hadn’t done that, i would have had at least a 79.5, but prob more like an 81 or 82. she was extremely unsympathetic to the point where she refused to treat me the same as she had before in the beginning of the year.
once upon a time I used to be good at math and kind of like it (excluding the nightmare that is geography), but after struggling through math with a year of health issues and a horrific teacher, I lost that.
but those two Cs are the only ones. and one is a C plus which implies I was close.
bryn mawr is the best.
where else are you guys applying? if applied to all liberal arts schools, coed and all women (i don’t really care either way, I just happened to like Bryn Mawr best).
nervous about the rigor as I’ve been out of practice with that for a bit, besides math, CC is pretty easy, especially in regard to workload.
last time I had a heavy workload was tenth grade. it’ll prob be a bit of a mental shock, anywhere I end up, but bryn mawr especially.
been trying to start reading everyday but lasted one day (commitment issues i suppose). and fahrenheit 451 is dense and the print is small (and my eyes are bad).
what do you guys wanna study? if you know yet…
Also applying EDII. Good luck to you guys! Hope we can all make it to BMC
@rach131 I don’t really enjoy writing poetry but I do like to read it. Sounds fun! Haha I feel your pain with math. I was always on grade-level for math (my parents like to frequently bring up that even my kindergarten teacher commented on how bad I am at it!) I’m more of a humanities girl, it seems. I applied to William & Mary ED, but I got deferred. My parents had insisted that I only look in-state, but once I got deferred from the only Virginia college I cared about, they finally began letting me look into other states. And that’s how I found BMC I’m also applying to Gettysburg, Washington & Jefferson, and JMU.
I think you’ll be fine! It might be a little hard to settle into but you’ve got the built-in drive to succeed, so I’m sure you’ll do alright.
I looked at the list of majors and minors and started panicking because my first thought was, “oh my goodness, I want to major in EVERYTHING!” But I think I’ve narrowed it down to a double-major with International Relations and Political Science, with a double-minor in peace, conflict, and social justice studies and Spanish. That’ll probably change again before I actually get a chance to declare my major(s)!
@evelynne1996 Good luck to you too! You all seem like nice girls
@starsforeyes I got deferred ED too From Reed. It was so hard to move on but I think everything happens for a reason. Without that deferral, I’d never have given BMC a chance, since I wasn’t really into BCM at first. Now BMC is growing on me more and more every day, so I just need to get in. Still it’s really hard.
i hope to double major in romance languages and music (like music history or something at haverford, swarthmore, or penn), and minor in creative writing.
so u did reed ed and got deferred then switched to bryn mawr?
i ended up applying to a lot of places. added like six with no app fee last minute. my original list was 9.
smith, mt holyoke, dickinson, drew, rider (safety to my safeties lol), wooster, oberlin, kenyon, grinnell, union, wellesley (why not lol?), goucher, muhlenberg, and colby.
if I don’t get into Bryn Mawr (and when I’m done being sad), I know I have a decent shot at smith, I did a summer writing program there and got an extra letter of rec from one of my
teachers at the program.
just curious: for those applying for financial aid, under financial aid and view awards do you see this:
Aid Year Institution Aid Year Description
2016
Home Institution (BMC/HC)
Award access not available.
@evelynne1996 I’ve got the same feelings It was heartbreaking not getting in, but that gave me a chance to find BMC and a few other fun colleges! The more I learn about BMC, the more I think it’s the right place for me anyway.
@rach131
Mine says
Aid Year Institution Aid Year Description
2016
Home Institution (BMC/HC)
Inquiry access denied.
I don’t know if that’s a good or a bad sign haha. The deadline was only a few days ago so I doubt they’ve decided much yet? So it probably means nothing. It does worry me though! I’m super nervous about my chances. I’ve pulled a few Bs this year because I’m taking the hardest curriculum my school offers (and 2 APs online in addition that’ll go on my transcript) but I know they won’t look good (also a C+ in AP history because my online class is awful ._.’ it just gives me a test on things it’s never mentioned and then I get stuff wrong and that’s it - my entire grade is whatever I get on that 1 test!). So I’m really counting on my essays and recommendations to pull me through!
yeah that’s what mine says on one, and unavailable on the other.
@rach131 yes after being deferred by Reed (ED1), I applied ED2 to Bryn Mawr. At first I was torn between Smith, Bryn Mawr and Scripps, but since I’m an international student applying for financial aid, BMC is the best option And I really like BMC too. The sense of community and the amazing traditions here are simply irresistible
@starsforeyes Hope we can both get in! I’d love to meet you since our situations are so similar
