I know...they are completely different.
I am just concerned that Bates is in the middle of nowhere and is a fairly heavy drinking school. But Bryn Mawr is all girls.

Bryn Mawr and Haverford have many kids taking classes at each place. It's not without guys....you can even live at Haverford.

Bryn Mawr is also a train ride (15-20 minutes) away from Philly, while Bates...well...it's a bit isolated.

I have a couple of friends at each, and the Mawrters seem a bit happier with their social scene. Academics are a toss up...although my friends at BMC like not having guys around as much...they say it's more civil. Not sure why.

What did the Bates people complain about specifically regarding their social scene?

They had less access to a city...nearest big city is Boston..a few hours south. The felt a little bit isolated. And, they sometimes did not like the seperation between the town and the college. Town-gown relations can get tricky at times.

Georgeous college however. Pretty good facilities.

IB.

Well...there you go! It sounds like you've got your finger on the pulse of the most fundamental differences. Those are very basic facts about the two schools that you have to consider.

They are both good schools. Bryn Mawr's campus and location are wonderful. 20 minutes to downtown Philly. 2 hours to NY or DC. Cheapo flights on Southwest to Philly airport. Nicer weather. Academically, it is superb in the areas it offers, literally the best in the country in some fields such as anthropology. If you want drinking, Haverford is half mile up the road.

But, the "all-girls" thing is legitimate. I don't think anyone can make up your mind for you on that one.

To add on to what the other posters have written, Bryn Mawr may be all girls, but you can also take classes at Haverford, Swat and Penn. With these 3 schools and Drexel right across the street from Penn, you will not be lacking for men:)
