Bs and Cs in Freshman Year?

I got As for everything except english
I got a C in english

I try very hard in english and have done my best for the whole year. The teacher marks extremely hard, and i had her again last year (sophomore) and AGAIN this year (junior) this year...

just wondering, would having a C in a main course such as English in Freshman year affect my college application? to say ivy leagues??

also, does anyone know how most universities calculate GPAs?
is 90 an A or 93?

Thanks.

Well, seeing as I'm a freshman, I wouldn't know too much... but it really depends on the rest of your academic standings.
Are you typically an A student like you say, and this is your only major slip up? then I doubt it will KILL your chances.

It shouldn't hurt all that much, if at all (even great colleges allow for some screw-ups freshman year) but you might consider applying to schools that don't consider freshman grades too.

yeah it prolly will not kill u though a C does look iffy. But what it does is that i lowers your ranking which is something colleges who even say they don't count freshman year look at. So in a way those colleges that say they don't look at frosh grades inadvertently look at it.
But i am thinking it prolly won't kill u.
Now u will just have to get all A's the rest of high school, no room for a slip up.
