BS Class of 2017 Thread

Back at ya, @carpoolingma, @payn4ward:wink: I feel like it’s all happening at warp speed now…

Yes! A Longhorn he will be.
Some of you might remember that p4wKid1 applied to BS back in …umm… 2012. We did the whole visiting, interviewing, etc. He was accepted to a few wonderful schools but decided to stay home. He graduates from LPS next month and is heading UT Austin. I guess he is meant to be a public school kid :)) Actually, we are relocating to Austin as well so that is going to be an interesting challenge.

Congrats to the whole carpooling family on matriculation at TCNJ!

Know the area well, and it should be fun to visit, @carpoolingma (:

I somehow missed @carpoolingma 's news–congrats!!! And congrats to @payn4ward too!!!

@payn4ward UT Austin is no easy acceptance to pull off in-state these days, at all! Congrats to your family. And on the move to Austin. Awesome place to live and I’m jealous you’ll still be close to your son.

@carpoolingma Congrats on your good news as well!

I think all this good news deserves a round of drinks. It’s cocktail time!

No decision yet. Last visit is April 24. It looks like it’s down to 2 so almost there.

Congrats @carpoolingma and @payn4ward!

@MA2012 , that was us last year. Right up to the wire…

@payn4ward My 2017er is now a public school kid all the way (hs and college) too! And, as she wants to be a public school teacher, she is really all in! So interesting how things work out!

@payn4ward: Two words – Franklin Barbeque!

Congrats.

@payn4ward: Three words - Two hour rule!

If going to college in same town as parents live but living in dorm or apartment for college experience, use the two hour rule: Kid doesn’t show up at parents’ house to do laundry, raid fridge, or for any other reason without first giving parents two hours’ notice. Correspondingly, parents agree not to pop over to see kid without same notice.

Then, all you have are the rare, and they will be rare, occasions when, serendipitously, a college kid and a parent-of-a-college-kid-aged person happen to bump into each other off-campus at the kind of place when both demographics might congregate (Target, good bbq joint, etc.).

@EarlyMTNester That is fabulous! We won’t be in the same town but we are only 35ish minutes away from campus. I love this rule! We also told her that she can’t come home until the first break - she has to stay on campus to become part of campus!

Franklin BBQ - IF you can get in. Bring a lawn chair for the wait in line.

My BIL had his wedding reception at the Franklin BBQ last October. We had the place to ourselves all evening, no waiting. Not fancy, but the food was delish. Would not stand in line for it, though.

Thank you all! We went to Rudy’s BBQ last time. It will take long time to try all the other bbqs
I’m debating should we take or not (sell) - skis, goose downs (many - blankets, jackets, coats), gas grill (there are all the bbqs, why grill at home??) Uggs, sorrels, etc etc  We are not taking baby stuff - two strollers, tricycles, … :))

@payn4ward - IMHO take the grill for burgers and entertaining but pare down the other stuff to just your favorites.

Posted in the college section but thought I would update here. Daughter is having the most difficult time deciding between three schools. She has done accepted student days at all and that has made the decision even more difficult.
Three very different schools but all excellent fits.
Harvey Mudd
Barnard with SP(2) program, includes research and mentorships
Williams

I suspect her decision will be final hours or less before May 1st.

We are supportive and trying to give her emotional space. She is agonizing over this and very appreciative of each schools interest in her.

Wonderful choices, quite different schools. What are her areas of academic interest?

Good luck to all of you, @HailuMu. I would remind her if they all feel like good fits, as different as they are, they probably are and it’s more a sign that she can’t go wrong.

@doschicos she wants to major in physics and plans on a Phd to eventually work in private research.

She feels like all three would support her long term goals and is really agonizing over her lifestyle for the next four years.
