Well done, @stargirl3 !
@skieurope I saw you on the Wellesley forum and was like, bruh, are you everywhere?!
@jdewey A friend knew someone who did Global Citizen Year so I figured I’d apply. I was accepted with a full ride back in July, with their earliest deadline, and I couldn’t turn it down.
Some forums I only go to when someone calls for moderator assistance there. Wellesley is one on them, since for obvious reasons I just have nothing to offer most people who post in the forum.

Hooray for you, @stargirl3 ! Sounds like a great adventure awaits!
@stargirl3 - You were in the midst of your amazing journey when I first found this board. Congratulations! I wish you much success!!
First acceptance today for DS- state safety school- but happy to have it . The tally is: 1 rejection from far reach ED school. 4 EA applications submitted: results are 1 acceptance, 2 deferrals and 1 he is waiting to hear from. Now 4 more RD applications to finish this week. Will be happy when he gets those submitted.
Congratulations, @vegas1. Great to start 2018 with one good option in hand!
Congrats @vegas1 and @stargirl3
Congrats to your son, vegas1!
@sevendad I love your writing, being a non native speaker my writing is primitive.
Any updates from the 2018 crew? Or are the rest waiting until March/RD notification window?
@nynycasino1234: You’re too kind. I’m a writer by trade, but still look to others on the forum as models of eloquence and clarity.
My son still hasn’t heard from three of his six early ones. Sent out seven more RD and three more due today. He’s gotten into three so far with no rejections. I was a bit disappointed by our state flagship. He was admitted, but it’s still really quite expensive. At least it’s a reasonable safety.
He received an email last week from one of his EA schools which is a significant reach. They said that he’s a semi finalist for a major scholarship and requested two essays. If selected as a finalist there’s on campus interviews. I’m trying not to read into this, but I think it’s a good sign that he will be admitted, particularly as EA results are due shortly. It reminds me of when we were waiting for March 10 four years ago: trying to read the tea leaves!!
@SevenDad , she’s received two more acceptances with substantial scholarships. There is one more school which was supposed to mail out today. Hopefully we will get it this week and then compare the offers. So far her first choice has offered the most and it looks like 98% sure she will attend her first choice. I just want to wait it out and see what the last school offers. We have until 2/1 to give the first choice School a deposit.
@Momto4kids - Are these LAC’s requiring essays and interviews for scholarships? Just curious which types of schools require that for scholarships. Thanks! And good luck
@sunnyschool this is for a state flagship worth a notoriously low out of state admit rate. I’m trying hard not to read into this, however, it seems as though only one other person on CC has received the email. If this had come immediately after he sent out the application then I would think nothing of it, but right before decisions makes me think he’s close.
That does sound promising @Momto4kids ! Fingers crossed for you… @NYCMomof3 those are great results!!! I’m happy for your daughter.
My daughter didn’t apply anywhere early because she wanted to focus on her far reach: an international dual-degree program that doesn’t have an EA/ED option. It is offered through two schools, and she applied to both. There is an interview “round”, and she finds out if she’s invited to interview later this month. Not applying early requires casting a wide net, so she applied to 12 other schools and is almost finished, she has two more to submit today.
The wildfires in December and now these horrible mudslides have made this winter all the more surreal for her. At first, I was angry that she didn’t get at least a couple of EA or rolling apps in sooner in the Fall. But now, all of these essays have been a good distraction. I didn’t think that I’d see anything worse than those wildfires, but this past week at Cate has been sobering.
@GMC2918 Did the mudslides affect Cate?
Not the campus directly - they’re safe on top of the mesa. But the roads surrounding campus are closed, and the devastation in Montecito (10-15 minutes away) has hit close to home. There are many Cate families, current & past, who live in the mudslide area and all have been impacted in some way or another. A large number of day students have been living on campus since the evacuation. The level of empathy, not to mention organization & professionalism, from the Cate administration has been truly remarkable. After everything they’ve been through, add to that the responsibility for educating and supporting 300 teenagers, while trying to maintain some semblance of normalcy.
@GMC2918 thank you.
I do hope you’re daughter receives good news soon about the interviews.
It’s been so devastating to see what’s been happening with the fires and now the mud slides. The people in California have my had to deal with so much. How much more can they take? I pray this ends soon.
As for disasters, there are still a ton of people in PR (half the island) that don’t have electricity. Thankfully, my family got their lights back on at day 60.
I can only hope that this will be the last thing California has to deal with for a very long time.
Fingers crossed for your daughter’s results!!! I hope she gets in to her dream school.
