BS/DMD Apps 2020-21

@adhvika045 Congratulations on getting accepted to VCU. Have you decided where you are going or waiting for a few more ? Do we know when Upenn, NS and Augusta are releasing decisions and how many students do they plan to accept for the accel. program?

Thank you! To answer your question, I applied to Augusta, Penn, and Iā€™m assuming you mean Nova Southeastern. Nova decisions come out 2 weeks after your interview. Penn comes out w/ your admissions decision, so your kid should have gotten their decision in december for ED and will get their decision on April 6th for RD. Augusta has said decisions come out in mid-March. Hope this helps!

Also, I havenā€™t decided where Iā€™m going yet. Waiting to hear from a few more dental programs and RD schools.

same! Iā€™m waiting for more decisions.
So far:
accepted: UoP 3+3, Marquette 3+4 (I think itā€™s my top choice now? deciding between this and a full-tuition scholarship at another school), and Creighton 4+4.
Anyone else get into these programs/ your thoughts?
(You can pm me so itā€™s private. Trying to make a decision about the next 7-8 years of our lives during a global pandemic is HARD.)

Hi - did you apply to Nova and/or receive an interview ? We submitted the supplementary app a few ago so wondering if anyone else is waiting or just us? thanks for your help

hey yā€™all! so iā€™m in a dilemma. I have a 4.02/4.3 uw gpa (an A at my school is a 4.0, A+ = 4.3) and have a couple of very strong ecā€™s and good enough sat score to be competitive. should i attempt to apply to these accelerated dental programs next fall (specifically uop 2+3) or will my weak gpa hurt me?

I hope yā€™all are having a good senior year in spite of the pandemic and congrats to all that got accepted!

**on a side note who else thinks that cardigan shouldā€™ve gotten best pop/vocal because imo taylor deserved it.

like most people say, stats arenā€™t everything.
weak gpa is totally fine! Iā€™d say, shoot your shot. If you have dental experiences (ie shadowing) you should be totally fine. Also, the UoP pre-dental application is super easy on the common application! Thereā€™s no supplements! So why not

Congrats on your acceptances thus far. Do you know how many students are accepted in these programs ? I cant seem to find that info on their websites either.

I know for VCU dental program, they only take 5 students max per year. Usually only four, so it can be pretty competitive. I think that is the case for most of the dental programs like these. For programs like UPenn and Case, try to go through an undergrad that may be easier to get into, since they have a consortium/agreement with many other undergrad schools.

@Zenmainia123 - Hi - Congrats on your acceptance to UDM. Have you decided where to go ?
Can you please share yours stats, experience etc. ? thanks and best wishes.

@adhvika045 wow, thats quite competitive. Were you applying as in-state ? Can you share your stats, exp ?

I applied as out-of-state. I have around a 3.98 UW/4.63 W GPA and 1560 SAT. For dental experience, I had around 450 hours of total clinical experience between shadowing and working at a dental office.

thatā€™s super impressive! I had a much lower sat and gpa, a crap ton of extracurriculars that I was really passionate about, and around 300 hours of shadowing.

This year, UoP accepted 30 into its 2+3, 15 into its 3+3, and 90 into its 4+3.
The Penn dental consortium programs will each take at most 7 per year, but the number who actually get accepted fluctuates.
Marquetteā€™s 3+4 takes 10 students a year.
Creightonā€™s dental program is brand new, so I have no idea how many people are in my cohort.

Thanks for the info. I really hope they have a waitlist. With such few seats and so many smart people applying Iā€™m sure they will have to account for some people getting multiple acceptances.

oh for sure. I got waitlisted to two programs myself!
This year, with the number of applicants going up EVERYWHERE, Iā€™d imagine all universities, not just accelerated programs, will be waitlisting many more people.

Hi, for the UPenn dental consortium programs, if I did not get an interview from UPenn, does that mean I have been automatically rejected from the program?

not necessarily. Iā€™m not sure how interviews work. I only got an alumni interview for the Penn/Penn program, was REQUIRED to interview for Muhlenberg/Penn, and CHOSE (not mandatory) to interview with Lehigh/Penn.

Ultimately, Iā€™ve so far been accepted to Muhlenberg/Penn, Villanova/Penn, and Lehigh/Penn (which, for future gunners out there who stumble upon this thread, I just got an email that 6 people got in out of 200+ applicants for Lehigh/Penn. crazy!)

@TheRose21 wow, thats impressive achievements. Would you mind sharing your stats, ECs etc. ?
Where have you decided to go ?

Hi,
I would not feel comfortable sharing my stats or ECs. I will say that Iā€™ve been accepted to UCLA/ UC Berkeley, so Iā€™m that caliber of an applicant?
I am most likely going to choose the cheapest bs/dmd program of my options.
[note to parents pm-ing me: please stop, it really is annoying when you want your child to be a dentist/doctor more than your child wants to]

congrats on the Penn programs!
