Hello! I made this thread because like many of you, I am really excited about boarding and wanted a place to talk about it! I haven’t seen any recent threads on this, but I could’ve missed them, so sorry if I did! Would you prefer a single or a roommate?
I want a roommate my freshman year because many have told me that it’s “part of the experience” and all of that, but I think that I want a single for the rest of the years if I can get one!
On this topic (and stuff like dresscode, etc.) there are many threads. Use the search tool of CC and you’ll find them.
@Nico.campbell Me too! Most of the time only juniors and seniors get singles at my school :-/
@SevenDad Sorry! I just haven’t seen any recent ones (I used the search tool)
Definitely going to request a single… Middlesex has plenty of singles so you usually get one if you request it…
I really think that having some semblance of privacy is a must when you have to be surrounded by other kids 24/7… I think I might go for a roommate senior year just for the experience (or I might not… There is still college for that )
Where are you planning on attending?
I’m just worried because some doubles/triples in my school have BUNK BEDS :-S I’d hate to get stuck with the top bunk
The reality is that you should prepare yourself for bunk beds at many schools as a freshman. It’s not uncommon. Even if the beds aren’t bunked, many roommates choose to bunk them to get more space in the room for extra furniture.
The fairest thing to do is split the year with your roommate, each taking the top bunk for half the year. Maybe you’ll get lucky and get a roommate who prefers the top bunk.
I hope so If not, youre right we could always spilt the year. On the plus side, maybe I’d have room for a bean bag if we’re bunked
Funny story: my aunt was deathly afraid of bunk beds (and heights) and she went to a BS where the school randomly assigned bunk #s … In her first year she was unlucky enough to get the top bunk on a triple bunk bed… She spent the first semester waiting till everyone was asleep and then she rolled out her sleeping bag and slept on the floor…
@Atria I realize that I really shouldn’t be butting in here and giving my opinion but living with a roommate freshman year is really awesome. It’s a good way to connect with somebody and meet more people and it’s a very valuable experience ESPECIALLY freshman year. I originally wanted a single freshman year but no I realize that I would have really regretted it because it’s so fun and if you want privacy (which is something I was worried about) you can for sure find a way
@cababe97
Just so you know I am going in as a sophomore ;)…
One of AtriaDad’s terms when we were considering BS was that I would request a single… He spent all his BS experience with 8 other (apparently very rowdy) boys and it really turned him of roommates :)) … I probably will room with someone at least a year for the experience though…
I was assigned a roommate for my first year, and though we had very different schedules and organization habits, I really appreciate getting to know her. I regret letting these little things get in the way of us being better friends.
I have a single this year, and it’s awesome. My friends are all down the hall but I have privacy and quiet. Just know that these things tend to work out.
