I just received my junior grades in the mail and I got high B's in both Physics C: Mechanics and Spanish III (H). I received A's in all my other classes. How much will these B's set me back? If any other information is required to make a good analysis, please do not hesitate to ask.

In general, getting a B or two won’t have a big impact on your chance of being accepted to selective schools. One exception is if the lower grades suggest you may not be able to handle the more challenging classes that you’ll see in college. For example, if you are a prospective engineering major who is a solid B student in math, it may raise some flags about whether you can handle the more difficult level of math courses that you’ll face in college. With more detail about your HS classes, grades, and GPA one could give a more detailed answer.

According to everyone I’ve asked, as long as your overall application puts you in a position where you add something to the school and they like what’s in your application, a few Bs as long as they are in good classes is not going to be what keeps you out.

Lots of applications to great schools with perfect scores and grades get rejected. There are lots of kids at great schools with much less than perfect SATS and not perfect grades as long as you do other stuff that means something to the school.

I have read tons of stuff here on these boards, I am a quick study. Strangely I think I would be most nervous applying to a school with a 2400 and 4.5 gpa. To me at least there’s something in there that screams that there’s something very unbalanced in that kid’s life and maybe even personality. (Of course they would also probably think I’m just dumb and jealous, so kriss kross, we’re even.)
