Is this a good choice? My major is Computer Science though I would like to get into game development and what not. Applying to USC I feel I rather go for this major rather than there standard Computer Science but! This degree isn't accredited by ABET.

That said, what would be a better choice for USC: Computer Science (accredited by ABET) or Computer Science (Games), which isn't accredited. I don't want to end up with a degree that is less competitive or universally accepted due to a lack of accreditation.

I think my son is going to be facing this same question. I am not sure how it works exactly at USC but if possible I think he should major in CS and minor in game development. I think the opportunities will be greater.

I’ve been working in the computer biz for almost 30 years, and have never heard CS degree accreditation discussed. It’s just not an issue in hiring.

The only situation where it might possibly be an issue is if you apply for admission to a graduate program in CS, but I bet even then it wouldn’t be a big deal.

As long as your degree has “University of Southern California” on it, you’ll be fine.

I know many students in Comp Sci (Games) at USC. About 20 USC students were interning at Microsoft Games this past summer and many were offered jobs upon graduation. The accreditation has not been any sort of issue.
