*** BS/MD Interview Notification for Class of 2014***

I'm applying to 18 combined programs and NJIT recently emailed out their notification for the first round of interviews to decide which applications to send out to UMDNJ. I think they're the first. Good luck to everyone!! :)

Is the interview with NJIT for or at UMDNJ ?? Best of luck to you in any case!!

It’s at NJIT, just to see which applicants to send to UMDNJ.
Thanks!

Oh my goodness… 18 programs??? Good luck haha! I’m only applying for 4, just the ones where I would be just as deliriously happy being a “normal” undergraduate as in a BS/MD program, and their medical schools are just as good. I’m not super desperate to get into a BS/MD program, if it happens, that’s awesome, but if not, it’s not a big deal. I can go the 4+4 route like the vast majority of medical school applicants. Where all are you guys applying? I’m doing Rice/Baylor (top choice, but probably not happening), Northwestern HPME, Brown PLME, and BU SMED. I already got my application to apply approved (lol for that system of weeding out the weak ones) for Northwestern’s.

Let’s get this thread started!

NEOMED and NJIT so far. anyone else?

I’m applying to 24 of these programs (7, 8, and 6 years)
@chean21, I got in for the NJIT interview so far! When is your interview date? I know many people already had it. Mine’s in a couple weeks.

ahhhh!! NJIT interview next week!! >.<

Hey guys, just had my NJIT interview. The email said to go to Fester Hall, but the email was wrong, it’s actually the Warren Street Village building, where the Honors College is now located (they just moved, but I guess forgot to change it in the email). I was late because I was walking all over the place trying to find it :p

The interview itself was fine. Be ready for why medicine, discuss what you’ve learned from shadowing/research experiences, and latest challenges facing medicine/healthcare. Read up on the affordable care act and how that impacts physicians. Also have a strong “why NJIT” and “what can you contribute to our campus?”. All in all my interviewer was really nice and the interview itself was good. I was super duper nervous going in but it was pretty much a conversation and my nervousnesses went away. Good luck to everyone who has an upcoming interview!

@starlight27, I have mine tuesday! My email said Fester Hall too so thanks for the heads up  There was a specific room number mentioned as well. I guess that wouldn’t apply any longer if it’s in a different building? Do you know who you interviewed with or about how many students were interviewing when you went?

Also, I’m hearing a lot of people already got notified of acceptance to NJIT for the UG part. I’m getting really nervous because I haven’t heard anything from them yet about this…

@GreenSage, Good luck! My email didn’t have a room number, so maybe yours actually isin Fester Hall, but when I went there they told me that they had no idea what I was talking about and I should go to the Honors building. The Honors College is located on the 2nd floor of the Warren Street Village building. It’s not labelled yet, because it’s new, but just ask someone and they can point you to it. My interviewer was Katia Passerini, the Interim Dean of the Honors College. There were 8 of us total interviewing that day, and 3 different interviewers. I got my acceptance to NJIT about 2 weeks ago and my merit aid package yesterday. I wouldn’t worry though, I’m sure you’ll get it soon!!

@starlight27, I just had my interview today! It wasn’t that bad. The irritating thing was getting there and dealing with navigating around that whole place… Didn’t quite like the setting nor were many people that nice

Since there are several people interviewing that day is there a group portion? I’m thinking probably not since interview times are at different hours aren’t they? or do they book 8 people for the same time slot?

Oh and did you park or take taxi?

My dad drove me there and we had so much trouble finding the visitor parking. And no, there’s no group interviewing. You all go into a conference room with your parents and the interviewers. The interviewers talk for a bit, explaining about the honors college and various medical/dental programs and everything. They try to act all strict and make everything seem like a bigger deal than it is so don’t let it get to you. They’re just trying to get you worked up.
Then, after that talk, they have files with every student’s name and they call you into a separate office one by one for personal interviews. Meanwhile, you can just sorta awkwardly mingle with the other students lol :P

@GreenSage I’m glad the interview went well!! Yeah, navigating the area was terrible. Who was your interviewer? Haha the other people in the conference room with me were being all intense and every time I tried to talk to someone they glared at me. It was awkward.

@starlight27, i didn’t catch the lady’s name as i walked in late, but she was referred to as “dr.” something, had an accent and seemed to know more about the st.george’s medical program.
And yeah, everyone was really awkward, but like half the people there knew each other (same school or something) so they were just talking while everyone else stuck to their phones haha.

have any of you guys who received an initial NJIT interview gotten notice back on the second stage of the BS/MD process? (meaning, the interview with the medical school?)

also, i believe the lady you’re referring to is dr. katia passerini(:

@shadow522, yes that was her thanks!
And you get the interview notification for the medical school much much later. around march if i’m not mistaken; it’s a long process :l Did you have your interview already?

@greensage ah, ok. Thanks(: yeah, I had my interview by phone bc I’m not from the new jersey area. I was asking around and a student from my school frm the class of 2013 said the same about no njms notification until several months later. Its annoying to have to wait that long aha.
Jw, I’ve never asked to be chanced by others on a forum and at this point in the game I was wondering whether or not its worth posting stats and asking to be chanced? Since all of the bs-md applications are pretty much in already anyways.
