*** BS/MD Interview Notification for Class of 2014***

@dumich- Congrats :)

@MedAspirant- Sorry about not getting in to any. You’ll defs get in in 4 years and you’ll be a kick-ass doctor. Anyone who goes through this process is bound for success. :)

@AspirirngStudent and MedAspirant- To those wondering, I was rejected PLME but accepted to Brown. So it does happen!!

I was rejected from Harvard, wait listed to U Penn, and rejected from PLME yesterday… 'twas rough haha.

Might give up BS MD, got into Harvard and Stanford. D feels tough to pass up on the undergrad experience of H or S

. I know that Shevlin handles TCNJ.

@starlight27…sorry to hear about PLME…but you DO have some good options. Your good fortune has enabled choice which you richly deserve! :slight_smile:

@bsmdad, three great choices…Harvard, Stanford, HPME. You can’t go wrong. Do let us know what your D decide. Congrats.

For those wondering about NJMS decisions, the undergrad schools through which your application was forwarded will contact you on April 1. NJMS itself doesn’t communicate with applicants, only the undergrads do.

Hey guys, so i got into duke and vcu gmed (8 year med program) and I cant decide…on one hand i have a duke which is a great school and on the other hand i have a guaranteed seat in medical school…please let me know if you guys have any insight while im making my decision…what are pros and cons…and how is the vcu med school?

@bsmdad- Wow. Your son sounds killer. Congrats!! He can’t go wrong (though I personally think HPME is the way to go-- who knows if he’ll get into that caliber of a med school through the ivy premed shark tank. Though if he got this far he has a nice shot. So really- he can’t go wrong!)

@dumich- thank you so much! It means a lot. :slight_smile: And really, CONGRATS. I mean it. That’s insane!

Yesss… Just negotiated nearly a million for my less than two year old upstart! ! There is more to life than being a md. .

Hi. Need advice deciding between Neomed and UMKC program. They are both 6 year programs. Input on which one is better program would be great (ignoring financial/cost aspect)

Hi everyone! As I start making a decision, I was wondering if some of you could PLEASE advise me on which program I should choose. If I choose the better program, I would be giving up a full tuition scholarship. Is there a big difference between the quality of the two programs? Any help is greatly appreciated! :smiley:

PSU/Jeff 6/7 Year BS/MD- (Not sure if I want to give up a summer- Is anyone doing the 7 year option?)
Drexel/Drexel 7 Year BS/MD- Full tuition undergrad scholarship

Also accepted into VCU’s 8 Year GMED Program with some scholarship. But how does Drexel/Drexel compare to VCU GMED?

Thanks so much!

did anyone hear about Westchester/Drexel 8 year med?

@punjabigenius, are you like one of those young entrepreneurs in the Shark tank? If so, congrats!

@docstudent

Both are not highly rated programs, but I would tell you to google the “match day” results on each school for 2013 (or 2014 if they are already up). You’ll find a list of the students and what hospitals they “graduated” to. Both schools will certainly have the vast, vast majority going to hospitals within their respective states. Look at the best hospitals/cities to get an idea of what might be attainable. This gives a very rough idea.

In a worst case scenario, ask whether your future self would rather be stuck doing internal medicine in KC or a small town in Missouri…or would you rather be in Akron or Columbus?

If you are competitive enough for a tougher residency, there doesn’t appear to be a major difference between the schools. I attended the UMKC program very briefly but a few people have done pretty well.

@indian96

Penn State, hands-down. Don’t worry about the summers, it’s not a big deal. Don’t let such a minor thing affect the big picture. Bottom line is that’s the best accelerated med program of the 3 you listed.

Johnny H is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT…hands down! Jefferson a great upbeat place for 4 years and appears to be a considerably more pleasant sentence than DREXEL(no question in MY mind…but what do I know?)

@Johnny H and @dumich Okay, thank you so much for your advice! I appreciate it!! :)

@indian96, I didn’t factor in the financials…if Drexel is a $100K cheaper than Penn State, go with Drex. I’d say Penn State is worth $30-40K more than drexel in terms of prestige/opportunities.

@Johnny H It’s definitely going to be a tough choice for me! In the end, it’ll come down to finding a good balance between cost/tuition and the quality of education. I would prefer going to PSU, but the fact that they offer no scholarship money is one of the negatives.

Also, I am still waiting to hear back from Pitt GA Med, and if selected there, that’ll be another tough choice since the scholarship offered there isn’t too great. Pitt would be a great choice, although I am a bit concerned about maintaining the 3.75 GPA requirement…

Yeah, 3.75 might be tougher than the 3.5 at Penn State. Having options is a good problem to have.

Whatever you do, definitely try to add up all the associated costs and compare them. It’s tough to seriously think about that and understand at this age, but it’s very real.
