@BiomedFather, my son did not apply tol Ursinus.

@IMGDAD My son had applied for the 4+4 drexel/drexel and he was rejected back with the whole batch a couple of weeks ago.

@Midhelper, I suspect he applied to the 3+4 Fast track program at Drexel/Drexel since this is the only BS/MD program offered by Drexel/Drexel. So, he was rejected about the same time as my son was for the 3+4 Rosemont/Drexel program.

HPME.pls…T.T

@IMGDAD, Drexel/Drexel does have a 4+4 program with their Engineering undergraduate program (<a href=“BA/BS+MD Early Assurance Program”>http://www.drexel.edu/undergrad/apply/freshmen-instructions/accelerated/). I am not sure how popular that program is. Most of the students seem to apply for their 3+4 program though.

@IMGDAD my son had actually chosen the 4 year psychology program with the MD. Maybe that wasn’t a good idea?

The Penn State/Jefferson interview was today. Shout-out to @MedicalBoy
This won’t help any applicant for this year because everyone is interviewed on the same day, but for next year’s applicants, I’m just gonna give a brief overview of the day (@MedicalBoy, please correct me/add whatever you think):
The morning started with a bunch of presentations from the program director and current students in the program. It was really informative and the students made it clear how much they loved the program. After the presentations, students are split into groups. Some go to lunch first whereas others have their student interviews, and then they switch. The student interviews are short (20 minutes) and it’s just a chat. The students have to report “whether they would like to have us as a colleague in their future field”. There are also small-group Q&A sessions with current students, which is a nice chance to get your questions answered. After about 1pm, the interviews with faculty or alumni doctors started. Each interviewer had 4 interviewees, so these interviewers are also short (about 20 to 30 minutes). They actually are very chill and are just trying to see how you interact with others. While students were rotating through interviews, lunch, and Q&A, the parents were given a separate presentation and lunch. After all of the interviews, there was a cookie hour. I would suggest going because you can talk to all of the current students and to the program directors (they were both there, and they’re both super nice). Overall, the day was beautifully planned, and the current students do a really great job of showing why they enjoy the program- not a single person had any regrets, and everyone seemed psyched to be part of the Jefferson community. Also, about 500-600 apply, 100 are interviewed, and 50-60 are accepted. They aim for 25 matriculants.

On another note, I was rejected from U Pitt today. I think everybody who applied to the program was notified of either an interview or rejection this afternoon.

Thanks for the insight

So yeah the interview schedule was exactly like what @starlight27. The interviews were standard and very short. There were no surprises when it came to the interview. Very straightforward.

The only thing I can add is the students there seem VERY happy with their decision to attend and they emphasized many perks of both the program and the medical school. Overall, The presentations in the morning answered pretty much every major question about the program and shined light on both academics and life at both Penn State and Jefferson. The students seemed very mature and passionate about medicine and were very willing to answer any and all questions you had. It was a great experience and I walked out knowing pretty much everything about the program.

If you can I would recommend future applicants to take advantage of the Meet and Greet and Jefferson student housing the night before. I only attended the Meet and Greet and found the students of the program very informative about all the nuances of the program and their own perspectives and experiences.

Good luck to future applicants!

And yes I was also rejected from U Pitt today.

@starlight27 I actually found out when we were sitting together at lunch but I didn’t want to freak anybody out and make them tense about their GAP interview decisions right before their physician interviews.

Good luck to everyone else for U Pitt GAP and other program interviews/decisions.

@MedicalBoy that was so thoughtful of you. I don’t think I could have stayed quiet very comfortably in that situation. Hats off to your kindness :)

if anyone already had their njms interview, could you please share how the interview day was like? any tough ethical questions? any other suggestions?

@Midhelper Haha thanks. I was a bit disapointed at first but I made sure it didn’t affect my interview.

I wonder what criteria Pitt i looking for?

Advice please.

Spring break (mid March) is coming up and we would like to visit family if possible but the airline change fee would be horrendous. Still haven’t head from BU one way or another. Should we assume it is a rejection, or should we call, or should we wait (with the airfare going up daily)?

Also, how soon after supplemental application to AMC (for RPI) would we expect to hear regarding interview (or not) and if lucky enough for an interview is it flexible date or fixed and roughly how soon?

Sorry to trouble you folks like this. The airfare is rather expensive (international) so we’d like to save what we could, balancing costly fare due to late booking against costly change fees, but my daughter’s grandparents are old and we’d like to go see them when we could.

Thank you everyone!

@SLCMom- I would call BU if I were you. They said they are notifying until mid-February, so you might hear within the next few days! I heard back from Albany (for RPI) exactly a week after I submitted my application. They gave me a choice of two days, but both for mid-March and within the same week. I hope it all works out!

SLCmom for RPI you are probably looking at dates March 14 17 at the earliest. They interview Mons and Fris

I would definitely call BU! However, a while back a current BU SMED student posted in this thread in December and said that the last interview date is February 21st ( the current students know the dates because they have lunch with the people who get interviewed). When I went, they said that almost 1000 people applied this year and only 88 were selected to interview so it made it seem as if they have made their final selection for interviews already. Pretty surprising because from all the past years they interviewed around 100 students. I would call to confirm before making any flight arrangements because you never know… Best of luck!!!

@starlight27, @Midhelper and @DreamAway
Thank you all very much!

Congrats to everyone! you guys are all so amazing!
so happy that we’re coming to the home stretch and interview season is almost over!

Got my Pitt GAP interview notification yesterday!! So far, got interviews from Miami HPME, Baylor/Baylor (1st round), RPI/Albany, Drexel/Drexel, VCU, Pitt, Penn State/Jefferson, and Widener/Temple.

Rejected from Case Western, Rochester, and GW/GW. Good luck to everyone for the rest of their interviews!

@certaindr
My S had a NJMS interview last week. He had heard from 2 of our friends’ who said they were NOT asked any ethical questions. But during the interview, my S was asked about pro’s and con’s about Canadian Healthcare in general and about Euthanasia. He said it was non-stressful and nothing to worry about. We did have a tour of NJMS Hospital by two friendly 2nd year students. After that, My S then had an hour interview and he was pleased with the outcome. Good luck to you on your interview. Just be yourself and you will be fine.

@SLCMom
My S did call BU on Feb 11 and was told that there were interview letters still being mailed out. Also, my S is scheduled for a AMC interview on Feb 17… As soon as he filled up the Supplemental (which was 3rd week of Jan) , he got an email within 3-4 days. He was asked to pick from one of “their” 4 dates to schedule the interview, (There was one date in Jan itself). He had a conflict and the earliest he could go was next week. I was told that no matter what the weather condition is, AMC will have the interview on the date you schedule.

@To all other HPME interview attendees,
Congratulations! It is an awesome achievement. My S got a rejection yesterday from HPME. I am sure in addition to “their” minimum academic achievements, they look for something else as well. You folks obviously excelled in them. Good luck!
