*** BS/MD Interview Notification for Class of 2014***

@Sadfeet I think I’m in the same boat as you. I didn’t send additional info or an email expressing interest in NU still. Were they worried that we wouldn’t attend if rejected from HPME?

@comicsoccer, once I learned that I didn’t get an interview for HPME in early March (which I think is because I was on HPME’s wait-list) I emailed NU saying that I am still interested in NU but did not send any more information than that but I got rejected from them today and I am just trying to figure out whether that is because I wasn’t good enough or because HPME influenced my chances. I am not too sad though because I got into Caltech and UChicago so far.

@Sadfeet I can’t imagine you weren’t good enough. I got waitlisted and I didn’t send an email expressing interest again. I just can’t wrap my head around not being accepted though

The bottom line, ladies and gents, that in 2014…we live in a new PARADIGM…these programs are not a guarantee for ANYONE, both undergrad and BS/MD. You can take it personally , or look at it as if they selected OTHERS, and your rejection is a function of NOT being accepted rather than a rejection. Valedictorian/2350/etc…does NOT cut it like it did just LAST year…AND we are lucky we are in the pool now cuz next year it will be twice as bad. SAFETIES will be community college! :((

Haha I was rejected from HPME about two weeks ago and I was just rejected from regular undergrad. My friend got in with far lower stats (he’s awesome-- I’m so happy for him!!), so I’m assuming that they’re trying to protect their yield.

So had anyone gotten an interview and also been accepted undergrad?? It might be a mistake for those of you who interviewed. So strange.

@starlight27 mcat9442 got accepted to NU today and also did his HPME interview in late February

Got accepted to NU today but still waiting for HPPME.

@starlight27 or anyone else, Is there a web site where you can see the decisions or is NU sending emails?

I got accepted to NU!!! Haven’t heard either way from HPME. I interviewed late February. Sorry for the late notice, I’ve been out celebrating and doing school-related activities all night. I’m so excited! Is there a better shot for me to get into HPME now that I’ve been accepted to undergrad?

Sorry to the people who were rejected or waitlisted… I do know that HPME and NU undergrad admissions make decisions completely separately, so it would make sense if they disagreed on a few people, thus the undergrad rejections…

congrats guys!

just out of curiosity–if you guys interviewed for HPME and got into NU undergrad, is that an indication that you got into HPME?

Or is it possible for you to interview, get into NU undergrad, and then rejected from HPME?

@WeIsCool of course there’s a better shot for you to get into HPME than if you were rejected from NU

@notinuse yes, you can get into the undergrad without HPME. I know alot of people at NU who unsuccessfully interviewed for HPME

What were the questions in NU HPME interview ? How offensive are Dr. Green;'s questions ?

Eh, I wouldn’t call them offensive. It’s more disconcerting HOW she asks them, like you’ll start talking and she will just interrupt you and you will never get to finish a thought. She really doesn’t care as much about what you say as how well you handle it, I think. Questions asked included why HPME, why NU undergrad, what surprised you about medicine, and then a few general questions about my EC’s. None of the questions were “offensive”, more disconcerting. She did warn me beforehand that she would constantly be interrupting, as she didn’t have enough time in her day to listen to everyone’s full answers.

If interviewee’s answer gets longer than 2 mins, I think it’s ok for interviewer to interrupt. But if she didn’t give then less than one minute in answering, it doesn’t seems like she is good at least to me. Since she already warned interviewees, she already knew her problems. It’s good to know even my kid didn’t apply to NU HPME.

I think she did it on purpose to disorient us. She told me that she didn’t really care about what we had done before in high school - she was very interested, however, in seeing who we were as people. She wanted to see how we would perform under stress I’m assuming

Has everyone who applied heard from Northwestern regular decision (undergraduate)? No email for us…not in spam folder either. Ah well, just have to wait I guess.

@SLCMom you might want to call Undergraduate Office of Admissions to ask?

@WelsCool
Thanks, we might do that.

@WelsCool Any idea when we might hear back from HPME?

Not a clue, wish it was soon though!
