BS/MD programs (International Student)

I am an international student and want to apply to bs/md programs.
My top three choices are Penn State, Northwestern, and Boston University.
I go to Debakey High School for Health Professions in Qatar. It is a medical prep high school and is a branch from the main school in Texas.
I am taking the HST (Health Science and Technology) course at my school. I will learn anatomy and physiology. I will also go to hospitals and go to lectures on behalf of the school. Does taking this course at a medical prep. school give me an advantage.
My extracurricular activities are:
Project Sunshade (Fundraising campaign to raise awareness for the laborers in Qatar) +50 hours
Best Buddies +20 hours
Volunteered at 2 medical camps organized by my parents (both are doctors btw) about 15 hours
Co-founder, and Vice president of SASA (South Asian Student Association)
Represented my school through Qatar Debate (we made it to the nationals)
Volunteered at Library (Helping people wit tech. related issues) about 50 hours
Volunteered at Beat Diabetes Marathons
Attended Weill Cornell University ‘Medicine Unlimited’ event in Qatar
Played for a soccer club in 10th grade, school soccer team in 11th grade, tryouts are still going on for varsity

However, I don’t have any clinical/shadowing/research experience. But I have contacted two doctors and will shadow them soon.

My application deadlines are in November. I will start writing essays and filing out the forms.
Are there any other 7 year bs/md programs that allow international students?
What are my chances?
Any tips?
I am really interested in medicine. I was exposed to medicine more because my parents are both doctors and it is my passion. I like to learn about the human body, help people, and solve their problems.

Thank You

Anyone…?

Medical school prep high school? Huh, interesting! Never heard of it. Must be good prep. However, US unis do tend to look for students that are well-rounded at various amounts of subjects rather than just strictly the sciences.

I think the highest chance you’ve got is at Boston University if you’re applying for the 6-year medicine program they have there. It seems like they will be interested in a student with a strong medical background.

UPenn and Northwestern might be a long shot but I would still apply, keeping in mind that a rejection letter might come a few months through.

If I were you, I would also apply to a safety school either in the US or out in order to seriously secure a spot at universities for you.

I’m an international student studying in Abu Dhabi that’s also interested in medicine so it seems like we have lots in common

Good luck and keep us updated on your applications!

Wow thank you so much! I’m also applying to Weil cornell medical college in Qatar. It’s a 6 year program. I’ll make sure to apply to a safety school as well.

I don’t think BS/MD programs are open to international students at all.
Have you looked into the criteria and verified the fact you’d be allowed to apply?

There are many BS/MD programs that aren’t open to international students. But I’m pretty sure the programs from the uni’s I’m applying to accept international students. I will check again to make sure.

@MYOS1634 I have checked again. The universities I’m applying to do accept international students. So…chance me?

Three key elements missing from your first post: are your parents able to fully pay for this? what are your ACT/SAT scores? what’s your GPA, or IGCSE and AS results, or IB predicted results…?
If your CR+M is 1400+, your parents are full pay, and you got A*/A for most of your IGCSE’s or have a 38 IB predicted results, then your odds are good for this type of programs, but that only means about 1 in 10…
Note that the premed program in US school aims at making sure you are well-rounded. It is NOT specialized and does not include any class in anatomy, for example. The premed program means: 2 semesters each in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and English, plus 1 semester each in organic chemistry, calculus, statistics, biochemistry, sociology, psychology, a diversity-focused class, perhaps neuroscience, and a language spoken by immigrants (if you speak Arabic, you’re good for that criterion.) In each course you need to be in the top 10-20% of your class. In addition, you should choose a major, which can be anything from Classics to Chemistry to Computer Science to Political Science.

My ACT score: 33

Still missing:
are your parents able to fully pay for this?
what’s your GPA, or IGCSE and AS results, or IB predicted results…?

St. Bonaventure has a dual degree program with George Washington Medical school. You are guaranteed admission to GW assuming your overall GPA is 3.6, 3.6 in Science and Math courses and no less than a B- in any course. 15 out of 250 applicants were accepted last year.

These programs are tough all around.

Ooops no international students other than Canadian.

@MYOS1634 Sorry for the late reply.
My ACT composite score is 33. Subscores: 33 for English, Math, Reading, and Science (how weird).
As of 11th grade, my GPA is 4.06 and my rank is #2. I don’t know my cumulative GPA yet.
My SAT Subject scores: 760 Math lvl 2, 760 Chemistry.
My parents will be able to fully pay this.

Then your odds are excellent because you “check all the boxes”.
