Holy crap!
After reading a few of these posts and looking at some of the students stats, I feel like I'm at the bottom of the list. Some of these people have such high GPA's or unrealistic amounts of volunteering. Compared to my own stats, I feel that my chances are very low, are they?
My own stats~
GPA~3.85 UW
ACT~36
Class rank-top 20 of 600. (weighed GPA)
13 AP's. One self taught and 4 earned.
Volunteering at hospital~150+ hrs.
Tutoring~50+hrs
One research paper published
Working on second research paper.
Several school clubs
One of the largest high schools in Michigan
currently studying radiology/oncology under the chairman of the radiology department. And hopefully getting a letter of rec from him.
(Not sure if this will help)- African American and lived in a different country for 7 years.

Should I even bother applying to the rice/baylor medical program and case western program? and is the UMKC program in my reach or no?

If anyone is in any BS/MD program, please tell me your stats and what set you apart,

You’ve got a very god chance at most programs, but you will be questioned about the fact that you’ve focused most of your attention on research. Just be prepared for the question of “Why medicine and not a PhD/research?” Great job!

I’m in the same situation. I’m not even sure if I should even apply to any BS/MD programs with my stats: 2400 SAT (800s on SAT IIs). 500 hours of hospital volunteering, 3 published papers, 100+ hours of shadowing, EMT, 4.0 gpa (val).

(joke)

An honest assessment, you’re a friggin underrepresented minority, probably one of the only ones applying to such schools. I’d be surprised if you didn’t get into Harvard let alone these programs.
