Hello CC. I am a BS/MD Hopeful in the state of New York. I have received acceptance letters from UMKC and St. Bonaventure.
Buuuuummmmmpppp

UAL-Birmingham: Match
UConn-Storrs: Match
UIL-Chicago: Reach (UIL-Chicago BS/MD is protectionistic)

Can’t chance you for the other ones.

what is your race? I ask because colleges like Howard is an HBCU, not saying that they don’t accept out of the African American race, but it would help in your application. Also, what about your SAT scores? To get into Howrd you nee a 1950.
And also, considering that you worked in “well-deserved” area, howard will LOVE you for this.

My Race is South Asian. Also, I do not have an SAT score because on Howard’s website, it also has a requirement for ACT:26. Maybe they convert the ACT score. And @Catria, would it have been a match if I were an Illinois Resident? And what criteria of the college do you base your chances off of? thank you.

Your UW GPA is 3.6. How can you expect to get admitted to BS/MD when 5% of most good HS produces >3.95 uW GPA and BS/MD seats (any university which offers) are extremely competitive? If you have grit, perseverance and develop good study habits in college and get >3.6 GPA in college (it is not that easy in College) you can still do MD! Good Luck!

Thank you for your feedback. I want to add that I am in the top 10 percent despite the low gpa. I understand my chances are low, but I remain hopeful. I do have backup plans that I will follow if I am not admitted to these programs.
However, I’m still looking for more people to give feedback. Thanks!

what type of south asian

I am Indian

UIL-Chicago 0-7 would be a match, perhaps high match, for an in-stater with that kind of file.

I’m confident that you’re safe for all of those schools

I don’t think you’re exactly “safe” for all those schools. If you were applying to regular BA schools, you’d be safe, but any bachelor’s/MD programs are hard to get into regardless of prestige of these universities. your gpa is somewhat low for these programs. ACT is avg or slightly low. I’d focus on your global health activity (med schools love those). Also what are your AP scores? If you got 5s on AP science exams, it would help you a lot. Also for Howard, they do have a significant number of Asians in their med school class, but you do want to emphasize your desire to serve underserved pops if you’re not URM

Thank you for your feedback Kevin. I did emphasize my voluntary medical endeavors. College admissions are definitely a great perk to the fulfillment you get from helping people. Also, though my gpa is low, I am ranked in the top 50 students of a class of 550 people because All of my classes are either AP or Honors. Do schools care for Weighted GPA at all? Thanks

My main hope is getting an interview. And about 25 percent of applicants tend to get one.

Buuuuuummmmmpp

So for Uil-Chicago. What do mean by high match?

Sent from my LT26i using CC

I think schools tend to look at unweighted gpa. I wouldn’t worry about ranking/gpa too much at this pt. They are on a lower end (ex. VCU’s program’s accepted folks have 3.8-3.9 unweighted), but not too low to the point where it will kill your chances. but hopefully your ecs can make up for it

Is there anything else I can do to make my chances to get an interview better? I feel like if I can get one, I will shine through.

A “high match” is in the middle ground between a match and a reach.

bumppppppp
