Hey guys I was just wondering how BS/MD acceptances/rejections work. I know that there are many undergraduate colleges that are in affiliation with a single medical school. Does this mean that you will get rejected from all the programs with that medical school if it decides you are not a proper candidate? Or is each individual program have its own admission committee that makes the decision?

Thanks

some do some don’t. Depends on the program. For drexel, they can reject you for one undergrad and accept you for another undergrad.

If you were rejected after being interviewed/forwarded by the undergrad then you’re rejected from all the undergrads. But if you didn’t even get interviewed by one undergrad, you could still get interviewed and forwarded through another. The undergrad plays no role in the med schools decision

That’s not what I’m talking about.

For example you apply to a program and the undergrad college forwards your application to the medical school. If the medical school rejects you, are you rejected from all the programs with that medical school or is each individual program different?

@med I think they take all your files and combine it into one file, since you have no advantage by applying more than one time through another school to UMDNJ. If you’re rejected once, I think that’s it.

I suspect the medical school gets a score and provides a ranking to each school for their interviewed candidates.

So if the med school thinks you are not good enough, you will be at the bottom of all the lists. If they think you are good enough, you will be on all the lists. If you are on all the lists, I suspect they may be doing some trading of the candidates on the lists if they did not give you enough money but they gave someone lot more.

Does anyone have a definitive answer?

If this is true then it sucks because you put a lot of effort into applying to a lot of programs and your chances at 5 are gone in an instant because of the med school decision.

Is there a max number of programs/undergrads you can apply to? How long does it take on average to finish an application for a med program?

I was also curious about this process relative to AMC(RPI/SIENNA/UNION) , DREXEL undergrad feed schools, New Jersey(8 feed schools). There does NOT appear to be a consensus opinion or “HARD” fact about this issue…unless, of course, I’m just unable
to be convinced!

The definitive answer is that it is a racket and the medical school likes to collect multiple fees for a single interview when you apply through multiple undergrad schools.

If you are weak per the med school, you will get rejected by all.

Whether you become eligible for all should be visible based on people’s results this year since several have attended an interview representing more than one undegrad school.

Hey guys! I have a question! So here is my situation: when i applied to villanova undergrad (along with the first ba md application) i sent in a 31(which i took in september) as my act score. When i applied to drexel and lehigh undergrad (and the first ba md app for their schools) i sent in a 34 for my act (which i took in october). I did not resend my scores to villanova until after i was contacted for an interview for villanova/drexel at drexel med. Does drexel med combine the application for each undergrad school (like UMDNJ does) or is each separate? I’m worried that my 31 was in my villanova file. Not that it makes a difference now, but i just want to make sure it won’t affect my drexel/lehigh app. (im going to call the school to confirm tommorow), but anyone have any thoughts?

UMDNJ PROGRAMS : No advantage in applying to more than 1 undergrad schools. This is different for the AMC and Drexel programs because you do get an advantage from applying to more undergrad schools. I think based on this, you can conclude that if you do get rejected for the program through one undergrad, you are probably not under consideration for the program anymore.

Is there a max number of programs/undergrads you can apply to? And how long does it take on average to finish an app for a med program?

Common App allows a max of 20 undergrad programs. However, many of the combined program undergrad schools are outside of common app since many are public schools.

You can always paper apps for schools once you exceed 20.

I am positive if umdnj rejects you through one, you’re rejected through all of them.

Alright thanks.

Also, how long does it take to finish a typical program application with essays?

@njman94, which undergrad are you attending for the umdnj program? did you apply through multiple undergrad?

It varies. However, once you’ve written one general essay about why medicine, etc., the time it takes to write an essay shrinks drastically (since you can copy/paste most of the essay and tweak it).
