*** BS/MD Results for Class of 2012 ***

^ Thanks for the reply. I remember reading on Northwestern’s webpage that they require the Math II and Chemistry subject tests. Do you know what subject tests Case Western’s PPSP requires? I could not find any specifics on Case’s webpage.

“Are programs really more competitive than elite schools?”
-yes. It is much easier to get to certain Med. School “regular route” than to combined program that includes the same Med. School. D. is currently at Med. School that rejected her pre-interview from their bs/md. She also was accepted to this specific UG with huge Merit award that would cover all but $5k of tuition.
Elite schools? It depends what you mean. It is not that hard to get into NwU Medical school, it is almost impossible to get into HPME at NwU. I assume that the same caliber students that are getting accepted to Med. School would be accepted to UG if they have applied.

Anyone mind chancing me for the Drexel 7 year program? I want to know if it would be in my best interest to apply or should I just drop it from my list. Also, I’m looking at the UMDNJ program because I’m instate. Should I apply there because I’m instate or would they just reject me because I’m not as strong of an applicant as others might be.

Objective:
• SAT I: Took it twice. 1st time: 2100 (750 Math/740 Writing/610 CR). 2nd time: 2040 (670 Math/660 Writing/710 CR); Superscore (2200)
• SAT II: Taking Math II and Biology E. Looking around 720-760 for Math II and around 700 or so for Biology
• Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.938
• Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable):29/333
• AP (place score in parenthesis): Taking 4 this year, haven’t taken any over my high school career. Is this going to be the killer?
• Senior Year Course Load:
AP Biology
AP Physics AB
AP Calculus AB
AP Statistics
English 12 College Prep (Level 1)
Anatomy and Physiology
Graphic Design 2

Subjective:
Green Club (2 years)
Robotics Club (2 years)
NHS (2 years) Officer (Senior year)
FBLA (2 years)

Awards:
Word Processing I - got to States for FBLA

Activities:
• Volunteer at hospital all year round. Have over 500 hours under my belt
• Helped with Hope For Japan’s disaster project in Graphic Design
• UNICEF fundraising

Essays: Doing them right after October 6th Bio E and Math II SAT 2s.
Teacher Recommendation: Haven’t sent yet, busy doing Biology E.
Counselor Rec: Great counselor who loves me. Hoping for something amazing.

Other:
State: NJ
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Asian (Indian)
Gender: Male

You might as well apply to Drexel and UMDNJ, you can get in with your stats even if your SAT is a little low. Try to compensate for that with strong essays and recs (teachers need time and some want you to provide them with a resume and BG info on what you’re applying to). If you can, shadowing is a nice last minute addition to your app. I only shadowed for a few weekends in Sept/Oct but it gave me some great material for essays and interviews.

Well, looks like I can cross out UMDNJ from my list. It says that it requires 1480 in one sitting for Math/CR. I just don’t have that. So, I’m strictly looking at Drexel’s 7 year med program. If I do end up with strong essays and recs would I have a shot at being accepted? I’m doing ED JHU as of right now with this as a backup. I just want to know if I should optimistically be waiting for this or just be packing my bags for the other schools on my list.

Don’t forget about 8 year progs like Stonybrook and Drexel 8 year. Some of them are easier to get into. I don’t think your chances are great but they’re not zero either.

You should also consider applying to BA/DO combined programs, such as NYCOM(NYIT) in Old Westbury NY and NSUCOM(Nova Southeastern U) in Davie FL.

Not to bash DO’s, but be aware of the differences between a DO and MD. Curriculum may be near identical, but residency and career prospects may be affected.

Would you guys mind chancing me for Case Western PPSP in medicine and Wash U’s 8 year university scholars program in medicine. I’m really interested in PPSP as when I interviewed there the admissions counselor said I would be a “competitive applicant” though my thinking is that everyone who applies for PPSP is. Anyway would you guys mind?

Location: East coast
School: Competitive public high school (about 450 kids)
Race: White
Gender: Male

GPA: 98.2 (unweighted); 101.6 (weighted); (on a 4.0 scale my unweighted is a 4.0 not sure about the weighted)
Rank: On track to being valedictorian (projected: 1/125)
Courses: Most rigorous curriculum including 7 AP courses (my school offers 15)

Junior year (place score in parenthesis):
AP Chemistry (5)
AP Calculus AB (5)
AP Statistics (3–haha meh)
AP English Language (5)

Senior year AP courses I plan on taking:
AP Biology
AP Calculus BC
AP English Literature

ACT: 34 C; 35 E; 36 M; 34 R; 31 S; 8 essay
SAT Subject Tests: Math 1 (700-- not sending to most schools); Math 2 (770–sending); Chem (720–sending)

Plenty of clubs with 4 or 5 leadership positions, but all of the clubs I participate in I am really passionate about. My biggest EC (most involvement and most passionate about) is Drama Club which I am Co-president of senior year and was treasurer of last year.
Have lifeguarded the last 3 summers as well and I am a volunteer (3 years now) at a local hospital (probably will be ~125 hours by the time I apply). I also began volunteering at an ambulance corps riding on calls and such-- for that I will have around 70 hours by the time I apply.
Lastly, I shadowed a hand surgeon for about two weeks-- I know it’s not much and I would have done more- believe me- but the group is very aristocratic and wouldn’t give me anymore time. I will, however, most likely be interning with this surgeon though that won’t start until around early March.
What do you guys think? Thanks again and sorry this is so long! :)

neoevolution, if u have above a 1400+, is there a chance of getting into UMDNJ, not TCNJ, but like Stevens or NJIT or Rutgers

also essays can be very important right? i’m also a siemens competition participant…i have loads of medical activities, leadership, volunteer hours, work, 2nd highest gpa in class (top1%, even tho school doesn’t rank), rigorous courseload, working on really good essays, etc…my stats are on the umkc page…but do u think there is a possibility of getting into NJIT or Stevens/UMDNJ, or is it purely based on SAT scores? cuz I did a lot of research and programs with UMDNJ throughout entire high school…so I dont know how much that would factor in…please help…it would help if u can PM me

UMDNJ makes the admissions decision no matter what undergrad you apply through. Honestly, I would say you need something a little higher to at least get an interview. From there, it’s more about your interview and resume.

Do you guys know anyone who got into this program with an sat score of 1400~1430/1600??

what is the easiest 7 year or 8 year medical program to get into with a 2000+ sat score, 8 AP classes, 94 GPA, shadowing a physician, summer with Alzheimer patients at an Alziehmers cottage, National honor society executive board member, district volleyball champions? I recently moved from Kentucky to New York junior year, so my academics are a little low.Should i even consider a combined medical program?

Desigirl, I would still apply since everybody loves the Siemens finalists. My D was told at the upper ivies that her not entering hurt her the most . She did get into one of the lower ones. Did you try to take the ACT or SAT again this fall?

You could try the AMC schools like Union and Sienna. Also if you go to Rutgers New
Brunswick you could try for the 7 year program where at the end of your 2nd year you apply to Robert Wood Johnson Med school and take med classes your senior yr at Rutgers. This way you could remain inNJ if that is your desire. If you can get into TCNJ regular they get over 30 percent of their grads into medical schools which is much higher than the national average.

Hey, could somebody chance me for BU SMED, Union-AMC, UPitt, Temple Med Scholars & VCU? Also,… in terms of undergrad… how are my chances for JHU? Please be honest.

My Credentials:
3.8 GPA unweighted,
2200 SAT (CR+M= 1430),
34 ACT (E-35, M-34, C-31, S-36)
760 Biology SAT,
720 Math II SAT,
710 Chem SAT.

I took the hardest classes in my school and all the classes at my school are honors; I have also taken elective classes offered at my school, which are affiliated with a medical school.

Extra-curriculars/Volunteering:
Soccer intermurals- 9th grade
