*** BS/MD Results For Class Of 2014 ***

Been lurking here for a while, and have not seen a decision discussion for last year's class, so I thought of starting a a new one for this year's class for posting decisions received for various BS/MD programs. I see an interview notifications and a general discussion thread for our class, but I thought it would be helpful to post decisions as they arrive. I know it is a bit early for that, but hopefully in a few weeks we would know of at least some for which we have already interviewed. :) :)

I promise I will post my stats and decision(s) when I receive them. Hopefully, like all of us here, we will have at least one acceptance to a BS/MD program of our choice.

Copying this format from the 2012 results thread.

Please share your stats in the following format, and include which BS/MD programs you applied to, as well as whether you were interviewed and whether you were accepted. (No these aren’t my stats… just a generic template!)

Decision:

Reflection: How you narrowed it down and ultimately picked a school/program, what you think were your biggest strengths/ weaknesses, etc.

Guys, can we please try to keep this for results only, meaning including stats? The acceptances alone, though awesome (!!!), are relatively unhelpful. We should try to keep this thread “clean.” Until you receive most of your decisions, maybe stick to posting individual results in the official thread or even the interview notification thread. Thanks in advance!

Congratulations to everyone who was admitted to AMC!

I agree @starlight27. The idea behind this thread is to document our acceptances along with ours stats to help next year’s class. There are two other active threads for interview notifications and discussion for 2014 class.

I have had a few interviews, but no acceptances yet. Still waiting! Congrats to those admitted to AMC through one of their feeder programs. If you could take the time to post your acceptances and stats, that would be awesome.

Just for ease of future reference purposes, acceptances for the Saint Louis University’s Medical Scholar Program were snail mailed on March 3.

Today (March 6) others are posting about online acceptances to the Penn State-Jefferson Premedical-Medical (PMM) Program.

March 7: Saint Bonaventure University/George Washington University SBU/GWU BS-MD decisions emailed.

Congrats fx80sam ! Looks like you got your acceptance e-mail

VCU decisions emailed 3/12/14

Congratulations to all of you who have received acceptances. I am still waiting on a few more. In the meantime, I pulled this list of acceptance notification dates for future classes. I just used info posted on the other thread, in addition to what I know from friends and, of course, my own apps! If you have more accurate information do add to it or copy/paste the list with your mods to this thread.

Hey fx80sam, thanks for all the information!

I was wondering, what portal are you talking about for the Drexel/Drexel program? The undergrad portal?

Not sure myself. Others who got accepted to Drexel/Drexel said so on the other thread. I assume it is the regular undergrad portal, since they get the message that you have been accepted to the special accelerated program, or something like that.

@ngkey1x I used the undergrad portal to access my results, just to verify what fx80sam is saying. Great job gathering all the dates, @fx80sam

Others UG schools applied t (decision): UC San Diego (Accepted), UC Berkeley (Accepted), Duke (WL), Harvard (rejected), UCLA (WL)
Decision: RPI/AMC Physician Scientist Program

Reflection: Alright, so clearly I applied to many schools. Here are the schools I was pissed about not getting in: UC,
Case Western, VCU, Villanova, and second Baylor. I was the most angry at UC. I did 3 years of research there and
attended a very selective program at the college, yet I did not even have the chance at an interview where I know I would have been successful due to my amazing success at mini med interviews (NEOMED, UMKC, OSU BMS). I am over it now because I was accepted into a far more prestigious program, RPI/AMC. Many people may be wondering why I did not accept Miami HPM, and let me tell you why. That program requires a 32 MCAT, 3.7 maintained GPA, and I did not receive at least 3/4 tuition. Also (and this is weird lol) I dont really like hot weather. Now I rejected both 6 year programs because UMKC was not worth it to me and NEOMED was too close to home as well as too rigorous and other factors. I did not choose OSU BMS, although not a BSMD program it is essentially one, because I did not want to go to OSU simple as that. Duquesne and W&J to me were worthless. Pretty simple choice in my opinion. SLU didn’t really offer too many benefits.

Things I should have done but don’t regret: more hospital volunteering, and studying for school more and limiting my ECs a bit more

Overall the application process was hell. The decisions were completely random. Simply put my resume wasn’t great enough to succeed into higher rated schools. I am EXTREMELY happy however that I was accepted into RPI’s program and am ready to face the challenges up ahead. Now both my sister and I will graduate to med school at the same time. She will graduate from Pitt GAP and I will from RPI Dual.

TIPS for future classes:
1.) Really show your passion for medicine. If you are not set on becoming a doctor, don’t waste your time.
2.) Understand that you will get a lot of rejections, SO APPLY TO A LOT OF SCHOOLS
3.) APPLY TO A LOT OF SCHOOLS
4.) At interviews, AlWAYS dress professionally
5.) Never skip an interview UNLESS you know you don’t want to go there or you can’t afford the trip in which case you can always call the institution
6.) Work on essays over summer because there are a lot of them. Keep them interesting.
7.) please PM me for questions, I dont come on that much, but will be happy to help

P.S. Every program is a great one, but it has to fit you.

Applied to the following BS/MD programs

Northwestern University HPME - interviewed, selected, and will be attending

Brown PLME - accepted

UAB EMSAP - No interview

Case Western PPSP - No interview

Rice/Baylor MSP - No interview

WashU UPSM - declined to interview

Rochester REMS - No interview

Other schools: Accepted to UNC, Rice, Rice, Rochester, CWRU, USC, Texas A&M, and University of Alabama. Waitlisted at Harvard, rejected to Yale.

Decision: Northwestern University HPME

Reflection: How you narrowed it down and ultimately picked a school/program, what you think were your biggest strengths/ weaknesses, etc. Biggest strength was definitely my essay section. I didn’t have anything that really stood out, and my HPME interviewer pointed that out, but I think what got me in was that I could show I really knew what medicine was about and why I wanted to be in a BSMD program. If you can answer those two questions effectively with a personal twist, you really don’t need anything else. I picked HPME because it’s 7 years and I will matriculate to a phenomenal medical school. Good luck to everybody, and don’t worry about building up a resume. I’m a big example of how passion will show if you truly care.
