What is so attractive about these programs? The top ten medical schools for primary care are all state schools and in the top 20 only a few are not. Why not have flexibility in your choice of medical school?

I just want to spend more time in research and other things since I saved time for studying MCAT. I am definitely applying to schools with top premed programs. What schools, though, could I shoot for?

My sister got into northwestern HPME and she had really similar stats and ECs and she said that everyone who applies does. You need to stand out with your essay and if you get to interview, interview. Most everyone is very qualified to be in the HPME program but keep in mind they only take 25?-ish people so don’t be discouraged if you don’t get in.

I think you will get into BS/MD programs, your stats are great

I don’t know if you want to apply in-state or out of state, and I know of a few BSMD programs that are not prestigious. Does it really matter as long as you get into med school? I mean I want to get in there too, and I understand that you’ve worked really hard, but other programs are available and you have an excellent shot of getting into. The programs I know of are mostly guaranteed admission into med school, so If you want to know about that then message me. I don’t know much about Brown and PLME. Also, congrats. You should be really proud of what you’ve achieved.

@sprights so everyone applying to HPME has Olympiad awards and research experiences? Dang, that’s gonna be tough…

@sattake thank you!

@Blue4940 I am applying to less prestigious programs, of course. I am also applying for the traditional pre-med schools as well.

@jhgong Yeah, they do. Some are Intel semifinalists and have done research at MIT and stuff. I think acceptance into this program is very essay and interview based. If you have the stats (which you do) the rest is in your favor.

Which ones?

@cappex I am doing Brown PLME, NW HPME, Pitt GAP, Rochester REMS, Rice/Baylor, Baylor2, UAB EMSAP, BU SMED, Lehigh/Drexel, UMKC 6yrs, WASHU BS/MD, CWRU PPSP, etc. I think that most programs here are tbh kind of higher tier ones, so please let me know if there are other great programs that I am missing out!

Try Howard University

There is nothing lower tier about UMKC and if you got in you would do great! Your stats are impressive I would try to get some physician shadowing hours.

I have about 40 hours of shadowing three oncologists. I just forgot to put it in my stats.
