Hey! So I’m a junior interested in applying for BS/MD or DO and BS/OD programs next year. I was wondering what an approximate estimate is of shadowing hours for accepted students? I know it’s different but like is it close to 10 or 100 hours?
Thanks!

There is a separate section for posting BS/MD related questions. Review existing threads before creating threads.

There is no specific number. For many students it is not possible to shadow due to age and no connections to friends and families working as physicians.
Remember, shadow not to reach a target, rather to validate, do you like this profession and do you want to do this job day in and day out.
BS/MD admission is very competitive and looks variety of factors and shadow is the one of the factor.
@GoldenRock Sorry I’ll definitely check again before posting next time! Yeah, I love the place that I’m shadowing and mostly shadow for my own pleasure. But I was just wondering a ballpark estimate of how many hours successful students (into these programs) put in. Is there a heavy emphasis on shadowing that they put in our dona couple of hours drive home the point?

Good you are enjoying the shadowing.

No. My D did not shadow at all but was a BS/MD student. But if she had shadowed, would it have helped to get more interviews. Probably.
It is very hard to know any number of hours since it is not the key piece to solve the puzzle. So if you have already shadowed, don’t try to focus on getting the max number. Rather put your energy for other more critical pieces of the puzzle.
Focus on your existing volunteer activity which helps people who are disadvantaged than you. Focus on your courses, std tests, about essays and enjoy your HS.
