BS Mechanical, MS Liberal Arts?

I was looking into some engineering programs in college and I saw some that offered BS in engineering and MS in liberal arts areas. For instance, RIT offers BS Mechanical Engineering and an MS in science, technology, and public policy, both integrated into a 4+1 BS/MS accelerated course. I saw another at I think Duke that was a dual degree BS in Mechanical Engineering and Economics.

What are the benefits of having such degrees together? Is it more marketable? Would it affect a students chances to getting a mechanical engineering job versus some sort of managerial job or something?

Massachusetts offers Masters in Engineering and Public Policy (MEPP) too
