BS/MS Program?

I was planning on applying to Northeastern early decision for their combined Biochemistry and Chemical Engineering major, and then switching to a BS/ MS program in either of the subjects. How rigorous would the course load be when compared with the standard path of a 5 BS (northeastern special) and then a 2 year MS?

Here is a general idea of the BS/MS for all schools, not NU exclusive.

You declare the intention after your sophomore year if you have a 3.5. It will cut down on your MS by a year.

You will go into an accelerated program to achieve more in less time. Any sort of institutional grants or scholarship ends with the Completion of bachelors and begining of Masters program.

You dont need to decide or declare it right away. You can get a feel for how challenging the curriculum is, then decide by year 3.

Good luck to Northeastern, it is also on my radar for its need base grant. Certainly a great school and very competitive.

I’m on my 4th year and just entered a biology BS/MS program at Northeastern. Feel free to AMA.

The course load is just as rigorous as the 2-year MS–you take the same classes, you just take half of them as an undergrad, and half as a full-time graduate student.

Apply as the major, and then go talk to some advisors about the PlusOne (which is what we call the MS/BS programs). You’ll have at least a couple years to learn more about the programs and make a decision.
