bs or ms for ee phd app. which is better?

<p>1) ive heard some schools prefer bs applicants (among those from other schools) cuz they can keep them longer for research. on the other hand ppl say ms applicants have an edge cuz they have more research .</p>

<p>which's true?</p>

<p>2) also which takes longer: coterming bs/ms and then doing phd elsewhere, or getting bs and then doing ms/phd elsewhere? how well does ms coursework transfer in the former?</p>
